Easier Than a Breakup Text? Florida Woman Poisons Boyfriend and Admits it to Police

Not every relationship is perfect. In fact, some are downright toxic. As people ride the ups and downs of a relationship rollercoaster, there are typically a few different ways to end it. Texting someone you want to break up, saying it over the phone, meeting up face to face for closure, or even fleeing the country to get away from the other person. However, one Florida woman took it to the next extreme.

Alvis Parrish, a 54-year-old Jacksonville citizen has been arrested and accused of poisoning her boyfriend. Did she deny the charges? Absolutely not. Parrish not only admitted to the crime, but she was the one to call the police to inform them of the incident. Not your everyday criminal. So, what exactly happened? What are the charges? And what will the consequences be for her so easily giving herself away to the police?

Fresh Lemonade, anyone?

The scene of the incident began in the home of Parrish and long-term boyfriend William Carter. The two had lived together for the last nine years. Parrish gave her partner a glass of lemonade, a seemingly harmless gesture. Quite kind, in fact. According to the reports from Carter, the lemonade tasted slightly off, but he had no reason to believe Parrish would put a drug in his drink since he normally didn’t take that specific drug. During the investigation, the lemonade bottle was found with a powdery substance at the bottom. It is believed that Parrish put some type of psychotic drug in the lemonade, but it has not been revealed what exactly it was.

After Carter drank the poisoned substance, he became lethargic. It was at this point that Parrish called up the police herself in a surprising turn of events. According to the arrest report Parrish was recorded saying, “I gave him just enough to shut him up and called y’all so he wouldn’t die.” And who says romance isn’t dead?

When deputies arrived at the scene on December 7th, Parrish was already waiting for them on the front porch. As they placed her in handcuffs she said, “Do whatever you want. If you don’t take me, I will kill him.” It was also noted that her voice was quite slurred, as if she was intoxicated. Not only was this another admission to the crime, but it could also be seen as a future threat to Carter’s well-being. Not a great thing for Parrish to lead with.

When the authorities reached Carter he was quite lethargic, but still able to answer questions. He didn’t even want to go to the hospital at first, but finally went after he collapsed on the kitchen floor.

In addition to Parrish admitting her fault to the police over the phone, and in person while being arrested, she went a step further by writing down what she had done in her notebook. So not only were there two verbal confirmations of her violations, but also a written one as well.

Parrish is currently facing a charge of poisoning food or water with the intent to injure or kill someone. Under?Florida Statute Section 859.01, introducing or adding any poison, bacterium, radioactive material, virus, or chemical compound with food, drink, medicine, or any product designed to be ingested, consumed, or applied to the body with the intent to injure or kill another person has committed a?first-degree felony. If convicted, this type of felony charge has a penalty of up to a $10,000 fine and up to thirty years in prison.

Since being arrested, Parrish should be assigned a public defender to the case. It will most likely be a difficult case to defend, considering she admitted to the crime not once, not twice, but three separate times. Maybe there were serious issues in their relationship, and maybe she really did just want to shut him up without causing any real damage. However, she is most likely now realizing what a harsh crime she has committed, with even more severe punishments. If the ‘Florida Man’ is known for being crazy, the ‘Florida Woman’ will soon be known for seeking vengeance.
