I follow at least 30 flooring contractors on Linkedin , I help maintain a small to medium commercial flooring firm , I've been a contracts manager for 13 plus years , a commercial floor layer prior for 20 years .

I read hundreds if not thousands of adverts , debates regarding flooring technicians entering site " to a shambles , off cuts of cables everywhere , plaster all over the floors , copper pipe cuts scattered , cables trailing , cement on the walls , skirting boards with signs of moisture , kitchen units placed in every room on the ground floor , site foreman shouting " IT IS READY YOUR FLOOR LAYER IS A PRIMA DONNA " .

Now all these groups " Fita " " Floorskills" "Nicf " etc ( they are endless ) instead of trying to cram as much advertising space into everything , why not use their influence in getting the rule of construction / the British Standard enforced on sites where the projects do not start until :

The site is weather tight , sub floor is free from any contamination , other trades have vacated , ambient temperature is maintained , suitable access is present , areas are clean and tidy and left vacuumed etc etc .

Forgive me , but if not every or most flooring contractors have been in this scenario :

GET IT DONE OR WE'LL FIND A CONTRACTOR WHO CAN ! , I AM NOT OR WE WILL NOT PAY FOR A DAMP PROOF MEMBRANE , YOU WANT TASK LIGHTING YOU SUPPLY IT ! , YOU WANT POWER RUN TO EVERY WORKING AREA YOU SUPPLY IT , YOU WANT A CLEAN SUB FLOOR YOU SCRAPE IT , YOU WANT ROLLS THAT WEIGH AS MUCH AS A SMALL PLANET TAKEN TO THE TOP FLOOR YOU DO IT , IT IS WHAT IT IS , TAKE IT UP WITH THE ELECTRICIAN, PLUMBER , PAINTER , WINDOW FITTER , MASTIC MAN ....... TO MANY EXAMPLES TO LIST .

Someone/ something needs to be done , as the construction trade is pulling all our pants down and all we are doing is looking over our shoulders and saying " be gentle " !.
