Floor Ethics while Working from Home
In this current situation organizations are facing challenges regarding People Management. Work from Home is a facility for us and our families, but certainly not at the expense of productivity.
The challenge that we are focusing on now is that we are giving our best by working from home but not maintaining the office culture and floor ethics that we are supposed to be following, irrespective of where we're working from.
Why are Floor ethics important while Working from Home?
It is not just about the formal attire and grooming but also the overall behaviour we exhibit. It means maintaining basic discipline to ensure work in no way is hampered because of the numerous distractions a home working environment may present. Being on a camera, have a stable connection and on-time are important aspects of maintaining the basic hygiene.
Planning your day as per the office schedule:
NOT Being punctual to work is an unfortunate trend nowadays. Employees’ mobile or laptop may be discharged. Do they need to attend everyday meeting? “The meeting was not that important today”, then Why was it scheduled?

Employees may think the meeting was not that important but not being a part of meeting, they may have missed some important details and opportunity to showcase their capabilities or develop them.
Planning will allow professionals to allocate adequate time for work and their loved ones every day and not only on the weekends. Employees don’t have to work late, provided we can eliminate / reduce unplanned activities which cause work delays and reduce overall productivity.
How active are you when your team needs you?
Most organizations did not let the changed situation affect their employee experience. Employees are getting the same rewards and recognition irrespective of where they are working. At times, important calls are missed, and responses are delayed, when it’s an urgent task to be delivered, since work from home, employees are not able to understand the seriousness of situation. As professionals, we are expected to deliver what we are assigned irrespective of the circumstances.
Reporting Managers often do not inform their subordinates about their planned leaves. Teams may have important things to coordinate with their Manager, and such situations lead to work getting unnecessarily affected. Such situations can be avoided just by informing team members which enables team to be on top of requirements.
