FloodMapp NowCast shows extent of flooding in Queensland
Large parts of Queensland are currently drenched and damaged with several weeks of significant rainfall leading to widespread flooding for areas from Kurumba in the Gulf of Carpentaria across to Mackay on the east coast.??
Coming on the back of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie, which delivered significant rainfall to the northwest of the state, the severe weather currently impacting Townsville to Mackay is delivering above average rainfall to these regions. ?
The average January rainfall totals for north Queensland and the central coast range from 200-600mm, as shown in image one. This current event has delivered and exceeded these rainfall totals over the past four days, with more wet weather expected in the coming days. Weekly rainfall totals up to 16 January is shown in image two. ?
This monsoon rainfall can cause significant disruption to transport routes which can isolate communities and impact the mobilisation of resources.? ?
