I've recently signed on with a LIFE-COACH: ROBIN BAHR out of BOSTON. I've had Several amazing mentors such as JOE MOTTA, Professor of BUSINESS at Stanford, Steve Barth, an entrepreneur whom i've admired and followed closely since highschool. I've had a lot of successes in life but I didn't really start to have much success until I began to realize the level of effort, commitment, and corresponding focus required to achieve any one particular goal. Clearly, I set lofty goals: that's how I avoid depression and it helps keep life exciting. I have interests in the biomedical and alternative energy industries but this is one of my goals for this year which i've tasked myself with building my team. I'm an ALPHA type-A personality and I'm exceptionally aggressive and always active.
I prefer to take my own approach and build my own BRAND strategy and i've set up my lifestyle so that I keep my expenses low and my freedom infinite. That way I choose who I work with and not the other way around.
You're probably reading this because i've either connected with you for our mutual interest in one of the following: engineering, law, real estate, construction, or any one of the three disciplines of business. My biggest goals have required more than an average set of skills and the average pursuit to average standards and the american standard of going with the flow. My goals require more than just a simple business plan, keeping a job for 5 years, getting married, having a family, going around the world, or running the BOSTON MARATHON.
I don't know about you, but I don't need a big house or fancy car to be happy. If I've got access to a camp stove and a cooler, and my surfboard and guitar; i'm happier than I could ever be. I don't need a $10-20k kitchen or $50k living room or $100 fireplace and chimney. I typically don't even need more than a sleeping bag to be happy.
I don't need anything bigger than a queen bed and a small closet, and even that's way more than I honestly need to be happy. For me it's more about the people who love me, and who I care about helping that keep me happy. I don't need a 15x20 living room or dining room, office or more. My laptop is all the office I need, and sometimes just my cell phone is more office than i need. A 6x8 kitchenette is all I need and a full size refrigerator is more than I need. I want to get the cost of a condo or studio apartment in Manhattan down to $1500-2k/mth.
When we're in 6th grade, grammar, English, and History seem like just lines on a wishlist, and not necessarily critical parts to our success, but we don't realize that those people of quality that stand at the gates to those events and organizations of upper echelon quality have all passed these minimum requirements and succeeded in acquiring these skills first in READING, WRITING, and Arithmetic. They understand what pronouns are, and what prepositions are, and the differences between YOUR and YOU'RE, and respect people who PAY ATTENTION to DETAILS, and not just the bottom line end of the day price that a plastic leather imitation belt costs at walmart, or the NEW style of Jeans fronting the LEVIS BRAND, but don't fit properly the way they should. The waste isn't true to the measuring tape, and the inseam isn't straight, and so much more in the way of quality violations by a BRAND that's been around more than 40 years. American the beautiful has become a country of overindulgence and sloth dominated by greed and ignorance. I suppose we could have seen this coming when the Slave masters were being taught to make their slaves respect them by more violently abusing their "money" or prized 'assets', and do everything but kill them because, killing them only eliminated the opportunity to make money. I find the greed to be disgusting. You can't talk to someone for more than 30 seconds unless they're directly benefitted themselves. I"ve worked on Wall street, and I can't tell you how many times i've heard "not interested" only to turn around and realize that what they're saying is that they're "not qualified" to participate in a real venture or real opportunity to capitalize on their assets, and really don't even realize everything they have. I can't tell you how many companies i talk to who say they've been in business for 15, 20, or even 25/30 years, yet still claim they have more work than they can handle and can't find great help. That means what you just told me is that your operations can't support your marketing, and your marketing hasn't been professionally performed to BRAND yourselves accordingly to draw more people like yourselves to you and start growing like a real professional organization. It's easier to tell a homeless guy that you "can't" help them, and blame TRUMP, or OBAMA! Ignorance is a stressful and aggravating place to live.
My goals at this point in my 'LIFE' are expensive goals requiring $Millions, if not BILLIONS of dollars, and they're really only achieved by PEOPLE of QUALITY who give a phooch about more than 'MONEY'! In the eighties, EXTREME wrote a tune called "MORE THAN WORDS". It's a great tune and I believe it hit the top of the charts and was another acoustic chart topper along with POISON's "Every Rose has it's thorn", and "PATIENCE", and all of these tunes were preceded by mega acoustic songwriter hits such as "BETH" by KISS, and many others. SKID ROW had "I'll REMEMBER YOU". My point is this; it takes more than words, and it takes more than money. Quality people are difficult to find when you're not a quality person or operating a quality company. Do you smoke cigarettes? chances are you're surrounded by people who smoke cigarettes! Chances are your employees smoke. Chances are: most of your customers smoke or have health problems and more. Quality is analogous to water: it seeks it's own level. If you're not a quality person, quality people won't want to hang out with you. Your kids won't respect you, and lots of people probably laugh at you! Sometimes it's just because they're just not as smart as you, but many times, it's just because you're just that ignorant. You might get the CAPITAL together to buy a quality car, but that's as far as you get. You're not in the gym every day. You're not starting businesses or making donations to charities that help those with disabilities or contributing to solutions that do more than help you have a nicer car or nicer house.
One of my favorite expressions is one that as far as I know, i'm the only one who's ever said it: "1. Poor people respect 'money' 2. 'money' respects TIME (meaning: you might have money, but you probably don't have TIME) 3. TIME respects QUALITY (meaning: once you're retired, you begin to realize that quality cost money, and quality TIME in HEALTHY TIME and HEALTHY LIVING and quality people are even harder to find), and then finally when you've reached that age of 65-69, you realize that quality people and quality TIME just get it done, and doesn't dwell on how it should be done, or why it should be done or any other long discussions of politics and more. You just want it done, and so you've just learned how to just get it done, and you've become committed to being one of few (4) quality people who respect the poor people with no money who just get it done, and you just pay them what they're asking, even if it's more than anyone else because they don't smoke, they're reliable, they do quality work, and they're BRAND and mantra and passion for life and positive attitude is priceless, and invaluable! That mindset only quality people have without having the money to support it gets recognized, and the uber wealthy and even upper middle class recognize it and are more than willing to just pay the bill and not debate it or dwell over the why's, where's, when's or how's. Quality people just want to pay to have it done so they can focus on their own strengths and opportunities and their own enjoyment of the TIME they have left to do what they love.
I started a company called OBRIGADO on nantucket, and the bankers knew the whole BRAND story, but didn't care enough to be investors and help with marketing and help me make the connections, and like all other bankers, they just want to just sit back, laugh, have an easy cushion office job and go home to their bullshit kids. They only cared about the money and getting the government their back taxes or following bullshit rules and regulations. I still had a lot to learn and a lot more action steps to take to run a successful business outside starting a business bank account. I needed a break, so I traveled to MIAMI with $500-1000 in my pocket or so, and subsequently started a company called MEDICAL SOLUTIONS, SP with MOOSAA to review a variety of medical products and medical malpractice, and bad Medical practices in general, and bad products and bad manufacturing and bad regulations, and so much more. I've come to have no respect for the medical industry, and its business men who are solely focused on the money or net GROSS MARGIN of their venture. I no longer care how much money you make or 'clear' from your venture. YOU might care because you're self-centered and can't get out of your own mind and own little life and own little shit town to see that there's more to life than a fancier car and/or big house with tons of expensive overhead and maintenance costs etc.
I've signed on with a LIFE COACH for SELFLESS REASONS, and it's very inspiring! I have a NEW motivation and inspiration to RISE up quickly out of bed in the morning at the first sign that i'm no longer tired and that I'm really awake and still alive, and energized enough to have a coffee and get back on that Grind to hit it hard and start working on my businesses again! The results #ROBINBAHR has begun to help me achieve already in the first month are inspiring. i'm not pursuing what most people pursue, and i'm not doing it for the reasons that most people do it. You see, after being laid off from a DEFENSE contractor moving to LOS TREACHEROUS the FIRST TIME in may 2011 with my TRUCK/TooLS, and vast experience in carpentry, and then again in OCTOBER 15, 2013 after buying a 1999 RED HARLEY ROAD KING for $6500 CASH, insuring it with Progressive and having them not pay the claim because of some bullshit excuse: i've learned a lot of valuable lessons!
I First started studying engineering to fill in the gaps and get an engineering job after being laid off, but then realized how much work was involved, and that I really didn't care enough to invest in the engineering side of my skills, but more into the fairness and justice side in LAW, and BUSINESS, and MEDICAL.
Before I fall off topic here and go on a tangential RANT and RAVE; I'd like to discuss my dominant goal for this year for myself and all the things i've put on the back burner to allow myself to be dominated by my own personal demands on my own skills, experience, talents, and more. I don't work for someone else; rather: I work for MYSELF, and only MYSELF! My dreams are to change the world, but more specifically to help those people less fortunate than MYSELF! I'm more than INFURIATED by the people who seemingly avoid their CAPITAL GAINS taxes in REAL ESTATE and more, and only seem to acquire more and more material possessions and property, rather than starting and building businesses that actually benefit other people than themselves, and that makes me want to stab every last one of them 60x and leave them for the COYOTES! I don't care any more. I've been against the corruption and bad business men and bad insurance policies since I was a sophomore in highschool and gained an awareness of legitimate insurance claims being denied left and right while illegitimate claims get honored. It's all BULLSHIT, and I'm not the only mootherphoocher who's tired of it!
Join me, as I establish and structure my strategy for success in this venture in 'flipping' this 'HIGH-RISE' in Manhattan this year before september 30, 2019.
When you set a goal, one of the most difficult steps is defining your goal. Just a simple assertion that you're creating a smart goal is great, but it's the details that simplify your executables, and subsequent action steps. Most people start with two dominant excuses: 1. MONEY or what financial executives refer to as "CAPITAL", or more specifically 'working CAPITAL', and although this one is no JOKE, it's not the only 'BE ALL, END ALL' of business or opportunities. The second dominant excuse people use is what TAILOPEZ refers to simply as KNOWLEDGE, in his KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY. It is more classically referred to by traditional Philosophers and historians and/or scientists or politicians as EDUCATION or 'Certifications', 'qualifications', 'credentials', or a number of other bullshit ways to define more reasons and TIME consuming actions items that slow down the process of just getting it done. When you want to do something, there are some simple concepts you should understand. You don't have to develop a TESLA to make money, but you do have to develop the TESLA, if every QUOONT in the automotive world is more concerned with the newest latest greatest more powerful MONEY MAKING Gasoline engine, rather than a more powerful completely different and more innovative technology that only the uber wealthy and intelligent people are intrigued by and inspired by: CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGY like BIOMEDICAL products, or alternative ENERGY such as SOLAR, WIND, HYDRO/OCEAN WAVES, and/or GEOTHERMAL, and all the integration of such and even right down to the car they drive implementing their technical investments.
I had walked by a homeless guy in MIAMI after being out for Nice! dinner with MYSELF BY MYSELF for MYSELF for the last TIME, and just giving them 'money' or just offering them simple 'ADVICE' was not longer enough satisfaction for me. It wasn't enough, because somehow i knew something they didn't know and I wanted to make a bigger impact and do more to help regardless of any excuse I wanted to make that I couldn't help them because I didn't have enough 'money' to help EVERY homeless guy on the street.
Something you'll learn if you ever pitch to investors, or try to sell someone on an idea is that investors CARE more about the PEOPLE involved and the people effected, than the money required to change the circumstances or influence the results. If you try to run through a business plan or pitch and not discuss any of the details of the people on your TEAM and their qualifications or credentials, or previous RESULTS, skills, education etc; then you'll most likely not get them interested. The reason being is that there are just too many 'people' out there with great ideas and great forecasted numbers and more. Intelligent people are aware that obstacles exist, risks materialize that must be mitigated, and liabilities must be managed at the very least ideally by implementing solutions to challenges that are readily apparent.
Does that mean that investors don't want to invest? Does that mean that investors don't want to be involved? Does that mean that the investor you're potentially talking to this afternoon with $50B working CAPITAL to work with doesn't want to help you or be part of your venture? It's not a simple YES/NO Answer, and everything is dependent on the people, and more specifically your C-SUITE executives who understand some critical management skills that very FEW lower level company or corporate employees understand. I don't give a flying phooch that he's got SENIOR in his title or that he or she has been with you for 15-20 years. I don't give a phooch that he's the principal of your company, or that he's been doing it for 30 years. If you haven't built a company of at least 10-15 employees by yourself or been a critical part of someone else's success, and their failures; you can't know or begin to understand all the elements that make or break a venture, and how to manage those obstacles. As My Uncle BOB FLANAGAN, successful Entrepreneur, businessman, and former CEO for Western Union says, "Bad things happen". Risks we're not aware of materialize, and must be mitigated, and ideally before they're realized, so our awareness must be so acute that we've made an INVESTMENT not only in great people who understand the threats, and liabilities, but that action steps have been taken to fully mitigate those risks, and eliminate the liabilities by hiring other people whose dominant strengths always eliminate those risks and liabilities almost naturally.
Realizing this helps you understand a fundamental step in building your foundation as you get started in your venture: Money doesn't solve problems; rather it only pays the people who know how, and want to follow through on, resolving those challenges.
Too many people get started in their endeavors thinking that they'll never have what they want or need simply because they just don't have the 'money'; when they should be thinking more like an engineer with a skill set in analytics, learning, research & Development, and more that set up a project for success any TIME and every TIME a project is commenced. The next best skill set is business knowledge in either Marketing, Operations, or FINANCE.
I interviewed my UNCLE BOB a couple years ago, and asked him a few questions about his resume and career progression from when he finished school to when he became CEO, and the mindset and volume of action required to get there, and his bottom line answer for success is a lot of HARD WORK, but there are lots of people out there who have 'worked HARD' their whole life only to retire with nothing. I've studied the concepts of the wealthy and successful business folks and realized that some of the most important key differences are many, and not just one simple trick to the trade of 'money'. My UNCLE BOB might tell you that the real key is 'going that extra mile', and although this IS in FACT one of the 17 keys in the book written by NAPOLEON HILL, it is not the only KEY. DISCIPLINE, and PMA or Positive Mental Attitude (GREAT ATTITUDE) are also two of the top 5 most important character traits of the uber successful. Having 'purpose' or a "passion" for something is not the only thing required for 'success'.
I've read several HBRs, or HARVARD BUSINESS REVIEW books on communication, business, strategy, business plans and so much more. I'm so passionate about business because I know it's society's only ticket to resolving every single challenge in the world. It's all BUSINESS, and it's all related to very specific sections of a business plan in whichever industry you prefer to discuss.
In Conclusion, the professionals will tell you that most investors don't care about another fancy presentation with great numbers and graphics etc. What they want to see first is your list of great people that you already have in place or are committed to the success of your venture and who have a track record of taking a company straight to success and not jumping ship at the first sign of difficulty. At the same token, they're not interested in discussing business opportunities with someone who only knows how to stand at the same tree indefinitely with a sledgehammer for 20 or even 30 years. There are countless businesses out there sustaining themselves where the owner or manager or principal is too much of a mess to take the company to real growth and success. They don't understand the key differences between a successful venture and a failing business that can't be sold. "Can't find great help..." is one of the funniest expressions we've all heard! But Can't find the budget is even less frequently used, because most business owners and managers and principals don't understand the basics of business and don't want to make an INVESTMENT in a professional consultant.
I could go out and get my real estate license! I can go out and work for thirty years flipping small residential houses! I could do a lot of things myself, but never really have them all add up to one skill set that just eventually is enough to just go flip a high-rise in MANHATTAN! Just figure it out, and just phn "get it done"!
The Biggest challenge in business is defining the DETAILS! What do you MEAN by HIGH-RISE? What do you mean in MANHATTAN? Manhattan is a BIG CITY, brah; just exactly WHAT are you talking about? Are you CRAZY? You're hilarious! "I would love to talk all day about your dreams, but I have things I have to get done; let me know when you have the money, and have the 'BUDGET', and well go look at a couple buildings that are being currently 'listed'.
I would have to say that these people who ask these types of questions and make these types of questions don't know anything about what you're trying to do and that's exactly why they shouldn't even be #invited to be involved.
Is a 32 story building in Manhattan a residential or commercial building? Does 32 stories automatically make it a commercial property? When you're driving down Lexington Avenue or even 7th or 8th avenue, and you look up at a simple high-rise of more than 20-30 stories, and you want to go in and change the layout, do you know who you have to get involved; from real estate attorneys, to engineers, to contract attorneys, and finance and insurance and more. I have a simple answer: NO, but I've known myself for 44 years and I know one thing is certain; this mootherphoocher loves to work and I just do the work, go in early, leave late and 'just fn get it done'!
