Flies Are People Too
While eating outside on the balcony the other day, a persistent fly buzzed around my plate of food ??. For every swipe and swat I waved, the fly discovered a new angle of attack toward my lunch. I cursed the fly. "How dare ye pesky flies invade my meal!" (Okay, I didn't actually say "ye").
Then I considered the fly’s perspective. You’re going about life. The day is flying by. Suddenly out of nowhere there's an apartment-building-sized pile of food. At minimum you’re curious. More likely you’d assume there’s plenty of food for one tiny fly-bite. "Why is this huge, stupid human swatting me away?”
?? When other people seem to fly in our face—or go after our “food”—maybe they’re just curious or hungry (for something). Do we seek to understand what that might be... or do we swat them away?
