High attrition rates are one of the major challenges companies face today. If observed pragmatically, salary will not come forth as the main reason for so many employee's departure. It is the workplace environment that pulls the employees the most.
A better way to change the environment of the workplace is to follow the FAR rule (FAR: Flexible, Adorable, and Recreational).
Flexible:
A flexible work environment means giving a free hand to the employees to work in whatever way they want. Flexibility is actually the expectations of the employees from the employer. A very good example of a flexible work environment is the Hybrid Work Model which is also called a cusp of Home and Office.
Adorable:
An adorable work environment is developed through positive values like co-ordination, faith, cooperation, support (even in times of failure), etc. infused in the employees by the employer.
Recreational:
Recreation or relaxation are the natural unforced activities that a person wants to do whereas work or task is an artificial forced activity that a person is duty-bound to do. Nowadays most of the workplaces come with attached zones where, through refreshing and recreational pursuits, employees can relieve their stress, strain, and fatigue.

To change the appearance, we need to change the attire also. Similarly, to change the work mannerisms, the design and arrangements of the office also need to be altered. Recall the traditional style working arrangement where a fixed desk, bench or chair was laid for the employees to sit from 10 to 6 with tea, and lunch, all at the same place. This style is now diminishing. Instead, technology-based pliable workstations have come into to picture. Some of them are:
Hot Desking Arrangement
It is a seating arrangement where an employee, through a simple mobile application, reserves a desk or a shared table and uses it for as long as it wants. This arrangement does not specify the departments or the sectors. Here an employee can move to a new desk every day.
Activity Based Working
Here, the place of work of an employee depends upon the types of task/activity it has in hand. Every employer wants its employees to be in the office with a specific purpose. It can be a collaboration with co-workers, team meetings or to do head-down work, such arrangements ensure what the employees need. Flexible workplaces not only increase efficiency but also reduce the cost of real estate needed. Workers also appreciate the freedom they get to move around the office.
The employer-employee relationship has changed drastically. Now it is not merely about how employees work in an office, but also how the office works for the employees. As per a survey conducted by Unispace, almost 91% of Indian companies have already expanded their office spaces. This figure is quite higher than the global figure of 75%. It seems India is going to show the world the significance of a Flexible Work Place.
