Flexible Consistency
The Other Side of the Coin teaser for upcoming ERC session on "Unconscious Bias and Its Impact on Exception Requests." Being equitable means making fair and impartial decisions so that everyone has the same chances and access to opportunities and resources. It may sound straightforward, and in our upcoming ERC session on Thursday, we will discuss our industry's commitment to equity and inclusivity as it relates to handling exception requests. We anticipate hearing from most of us as to how equitable we already are. But those words are just the beginning of the conversation. We'll delve into how to turn those words into actions.
The challenge before us is this: Corporate clients who may truly embrace equity and inclusion often want to extend these values to their relationships with suppliers. The difficulty for suppliers arises when they must consistently apply these principles, even when each client's philosophy may differ. Some clients take a strict stance against exceptions, while others are more flexible. Adding to the complexity is the fact that multiple suppliers may be serving your employees. How can they possibly align with every client's unique philosophy? This is not intended as a blame game! This intricate issue requires a thoughtful approach from all parties that strikes a balance between meeting the client's expectations and the supplier's ability to adapt to each client.
One of the most significant hurdles for suppliers is in harmonizing equity and inclusion with flexibility and the challenge it poses for inconsistent decision-making. The key lies in fostering an ongoing dialogue between clients and suppliers that builds a partnership based on TRUST and COLLABORATION, not fear.

During our session, we aim to explore and gather insights on tailoring expectations to suit the unique needs of each client. Is it even feasible within an outsourcing model that involves so many different supplier partners? How about this earth-shattering concept: allowing individuals, the ability to do what they believe is right.
