Flesh and Bronze
These days our cellphones make it easy to take a photo but, for many years, my trusty DSLR went with me everywhere.
That camera was the reason I accepted the photo-a-day challenge back in 2012. The idea was to take a photo a day and blog about it for 366 consecutive days and it just happened to be a leap year. LOL.
Then a photography contest came along and the subject was 'contrast.' The main rule was that it had to be shot using only natural light.
My entry was this image I took of my late husband, which I titled "Flesh and Bronze."
He was such a good sport, patiently posing for several practice shots, but we laughed a lot, had a blast and I won a prize of 500 custom-made business cards.
As we were setting up the shot, we overheard a little girl say, "Mommy, that man is talking to the statue!"
We were both in the staffing industry, and as the years went on, anytime we were struggling with something, we would look at each other, laugh, and say, "Talk to the statue." It sure lightened up the mood.
Moral of the story: life is full of contrasts. It's how we handle them that counts.
