Flat Woven Slings hold their own

Flat Woven Slings hold their own

Andromeda Industries manufactures Flat Woven Slings (FWS) for lifting that require the sling to be in contact with the load edge or surface. Available with strap widths up to 250mm and a maximum Working Load Limit (WLL) of 48 tonnes in a cradle lift they spread the pressure to contact surface/s and reduce the potential for marking or damaging of the load. This makes more sense when shown in the following photograph lifting steel coils on a wharf.

One of our customers explains this more clearly:

We have used Superflex Slings from Andromeda Industries for almost twenty years. During this time they have provided exceptional service, longevity and reliability in trying conditions. Their construction is well suited to irregular shaped loads for both basket and choker configurations. The same can be said about the more recently introduced Flat Woven Slings. Should you be looking for a quality product that is more versatile than conventional wire rope and more robust than synthetic, we recommend Andromeda’s Superflex and Flat Woven Slings.

Rigging standards around the world define the conditions in which slings can come into contact with a load. We performed an in-house test to determine how a FWS would perform in a 'worse case scenario' bent around a 90 degree corner (oxy cut steel block with no radiused edge) as shown in the photo below.

The sling resisted more than its Minimum Break Force (MBF) before failure showing no reduction in strength due to this harsh condition.

This was simply a test for research purposes only and rigging should always be performed in accordance with local standards and regulations. However it does show higher than expected strength which is arguably more than non-steel materials under the same conditions. Suitable for lifting metal roof sheeting, metal coils and loads that require reduced surface pressure, Andromeda's Flat Woven Slings do everything except cut corners.
