Flame retardant ABS three major formula

Flame retardant ABS, as a popular modified material, has been widely used in home appliances, electronic appliances, storage batteries and other fields. It overcomes the flammability of ordinary ABS, which invariably protects the safety of people's lives and properties. Although the bromine antimony flame retardant system occupies most of the market, its other two systems, halogen-free flame retardant and PVC/ABS alloy system, also have applications in many places.

  1. Bromine flame retardant ABS system

Bromine flame retardant is the most widely used and classic flame retardant ABS system, generally using bromine flame retardant tetrabromobisphenol A, bromotriazine, decabromodiphenylethane, supplemented by antimony trioxide. This flame retardant system has stable flame retardant properties, a wide range of applications, moderate cost, and many advantages.

2. Halogen-free flame retardant ABS system

This system is relatively rare, the reason is mainly suitable for ABS halogen-free flame retardant cost is high, such as PX-220 cost up to 40,000 yuan / ton or more and the amount of additive is usually added to more than 25%, but also can only be done to V1-V2 level. And to do V0 level of halogen-free flame retardant ABS mechanical properties are very poor, almost difficult to use. If you want to say the advantages, that is, halogen-free flame retardant ABS specific gravity is only 1.08 or so (bromine system is usually 1.18), and the amount of smoke when burning is small, relatively more environmentally friendly. The cost of almost no great advantage. At present, the main European countries export some of the halogen-free demand, the use of the printer skeleton and other combustion requirements of the scene is not high. However, as more and more bromine flame retardants are restricted, the development of halogen-free flame retardants is getting faster and faster, I believe that the future of halogen-free flame retardant ABS can be expected.


3. PVC/ABS alloy flame retardant system

This system has been widely criticized because of the easy corrosion of molds, mainly because some modification plant in the production of ABS when adding PVC as a flame retardant but not to inform the customer, resulting in a certain loss of downstream customers. First of all, PVC/ABS alloy is also a kind of flame retardant ABS system, PVC itself has better flame retardant properties, and compatibility with ABS is also good, more importantly, PVC is inexpensive, only about 8,000 yuan per ton, so the cost of PVC/ABS fuel-retardant to be significantly lower than the traditional flame-retardant ABS. but this product on the injection molding process and molds are certain requirements, first of all, the PVC/ABS injection molding process and molds. PVC / ABS injection molding temperature can not be too high, generally 165-175 ℃, the processing window is very narrow, the temperature is high, the direct decomposition of PVC produces HCL gas rapid corrosion of the mold, the temperature is low molding difficulties. And downtime lag is a taboo; In addition, generally if you confirm the use of PVC / ABS long-term production, ** is to open stainless steel molds, otherwise it is very easy to lead to corrosion. PVC / ABS made products, heat distortion temperature is generally low, hardness and rigidity is slightly worse. Although PVC / ABS more shortcomings, but in line with the “cost reduction is the king's way”, this product is still widely used in plugs and other fields. Of course, its molds and processes should be specially tuned!
