It's Hard some days!

It F*#kn Hurts

F*#kn Pain!

I’m writing this at 4am, No I’m not on night shift……I have been awake since 230am. I can’t sleep because it feels like my arse is on fire!

I’m in pain.

It hurts and there’s absolutely nothing I can do about it, I’ve tried everything over the last 30 years. Drugs. Legal and illegal, alcohol and self medication, alternative therapies (Massage, acupuncture, hydrotherapy etc) Nothing works.

Apparently it’s called CRPS which stands for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome…. But actually I don’t give a shit what it is called all I know is it hurts.

But I’ve dealt with it for the last 30 years and I guess I’ll live with it for the rest of my life.

But it did make me think that there's a lot of things that none of us think about before we get hurt. I mean if you asked me before my accident if I’d cope if I was in a wheelchair for the rest of my life I might have said “It would suck but I think I could do it”

But if you asked me “Do you think you could cope in a wheelchair for the rest of your life and 90% of the time your arse and legs will be stinging with horrible nerve pain?”

You might have got a different answer.

Part of the reason I share my story with workplaces is to let people know that getting hurt at work really hurts….. And it will hurt for the rest of your life!

Stay safe Australia.

G’day James, I agree. At times the pain is a greater disability for me

Hello James, fortunately, I am not in your situation and don't have the same experience you have, however in saying this, the pain I do have is seeing people like yourself who deal with their circumstances with strength. My Uncle, who is now deceased suffered a work injury which caused him a great deal of grief and we had many discussions on how an injury affects your life, in his case it was a back injury, fortunately he was able to walk and continue to do other things with careful pain management and the support of other devices which remain hidden under clothing. What people didn't see, are those days when he was laid up in bed asleep in the afternoon due to too much activity the day prior, perhaps washing the car. When I met you and listened to your presentation, you were very positive to send a strong message, Hey People, Listen; People do get hurt and I'm here to tell you how easy it can be, a very strong message. thankyou for your post as it reminds me to let people know of the pain people suffer after an injury. Keep up the good work you do in promoting Safety. and I think it would be okay for you to curse.

Thanks for sharing this James. I will continue to pass your messages on to people and try to assist with increasing safety awareness. I hope one day something can be done to help you and others with this pain.
