Fixing the Rideshare Industry: A Fair Deal for Drivers

Uber and Lyft the top rideshare companies, seem to ignore the problems their drivers face. By continually lowering wages and using 亚马逊 pricing model, which works for selling products but not services, they overlook the unique challenges their drivers face. Unlike Amazon, which pays its warehouse workers $18-$22 per hour plus bonuses and benefits, rideshare drivers have to cover their expenses like car payments, insurance, and gas, while earning about the same wages. This shows a significant flaw in their business strategies.
Some might say that drivers should find other jobs if they are unhappy. But this isn't a real solution. If drivers left ridesharing, companies would have to raise prices drastically—possibly from $15 to $45 per ride—due to a shortage of drivers. Customers need to recognize the important role drivers play in getting them to their destinations and support fair pay for them. Right now, rideshare companies take 50%-65% of the fare instead of the promised 70% to drivers, which is unfair and unsustainable.
Recent events in Minneapolis highlight this problem. When the city demanded better wages for drivers, Uber and Lyft threatened to stop operating rather than fixing the wage issue. This shows their unwillingness to find a fair solution for driver pay.
Some startups have tried to change the model by offering subscription-based services. This allows drivers to keep 100% of their fare in exchange for a flat monthly fee. While this idea sounds good, it often has hidden costs. Drivers would need to get expensive insurance policies to cover passengers, which many can't afford.
After over 25 years in transportation and hospitality—from managing taxicab dispatch to running a successful limo business—I founded Halen to solve these issues. At Halen, we are dedicated to fixing the broken rideshare and on-demand delivery system by ensuring fair pay for drivers. - Choriny M.
