Fixed Wireless $25 Broadband Plans Pressure Cable Dominance

Fixed Wireless $25 Broadband Plans Pressure Cable Dominance

As Comcast rolls out nearly a 4% increase on nationwide broadband and TV prices, T-Mobile is running a campaign that touts $25 "Unlimited" internet.

The announcer on the video says “Over one 4-year period the price of their plans rose over 70%" and it's time to "make Comcast your Ex". T-Mobile is also offering $750 for Xfinity customers to break their contract and switch.

Not to be outdone, Verizon has also begun to offer a $25 home internet plan and $500 to switch from their current internet provider.

Key thoughts:

  • Fixed Wireless Access (FWA") has accounted for 78.3% of all Net Broadband Additions over the past 12 months, more than 360% more than all cable and wireline companies combined.
  • Both wireless carriers expect to cover the majority of US households by 2024 with densification efforts continuing thereafter.
  • Right now, each carrier has deployed FWA that covers roughly 40M of the 122M total US Households, roughly 1/3
  • Verizon already has higher-performance plans that offer 1 Gbps FWA
  • Each carrier now has enough wireless spectrum to cover 99% US population
  • T-Mobile expects to have 7M to 8M FWA subscribers by the end of 2025
  • Verizon expects to have 4M to 5M FWA subscribers by the end of 2025

The carriers are targeting two completely different consumer markets with their network build and marketing. TPG provides detailed research and analysis that tracks infrastructure and technology deployments for T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and DISH.  You can reach us at [email protected]
