Five Years at the Forefront of Innovation: A Journey with Connected Places Catapult

Connected Places

As I mark my fifth anniversary at the Connected Places Catapult on 1st Nov, 2023 and celebrate #NationalEngineerDay, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey we’ve embarked on together. Our mission has always been clear: driving economic growth through stimulate innovation in the transport sector, create new markets, removing barrier and improve our quality of life. Today, I am proud to say that we have made significant strides towards these goals.

Driving Change through AI, Automation, and Decarbonisation

My directorate New Mobility Technologies with engineering specialist through working with other colleagues, industry, policy maker and acdemica has been instrumental in driving three key areas forward across transport, cities, and place leadership: Apply AI/Digitisation, Automation, and Decarbonisation. These pillars have guided our work and shaped our contributions to the industry.

Enabling the Future of Transport

We’ve worked tirelessly to enable the appreciation and commercial opportinty of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs)/ Unammaned Aerial System (UAS), a cornerstone of future mobility. Our efforts have extended to supporting the maritime industry through freeport innovation and transitioning to clean maritime.

Decarbonisation has been at the heart of our work. We’ve collaborated with government and industry sectors in Road, Maritime, Rail, and Aviation infrastructure for large-scale implementation and deployment planning.

Shaping Intelligent Transport Systems

Our work on Manual for Smart Street and the development of an end-to-end logistic roadmap has been crucial in transforming future intelligent transport. We’ve worked closely with government, local authorities, and technology companies to design these systems.

Looking Ahead

As my team look to the future, we remain committed to our mission. We will continue to drive innovation in apply AI/Digitisation, Automation, and Decarbonisation across various sectors of the ecosystem. My focus will be on ensuring that these innovations are responsible, trusted, reliable, and secure for all stakeholders involved. Here’s to shaping a future where technology serves as a catalyst for sustainable, efficient, and accessible solutions across industries.

Celebrating Our Achievements

I want to take a moment to acknowledge some of the organisations and individuals who have been instrumental in this journey.
