Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, it's time for a little reality check.
Five weeks until 2024.
When it comes to your health, happiness, and achieving the body you desire, there are essentially two paths you can follow for the rest of the year.
Option 1: Develop a reasonable and realistic exercise and nutrition plan for the next five weeks, with the goal of not losing ground before January 1. Most people tend to gain 5-10 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Year's. So, avoiding that trend would be a significant victory.
Option 2: Throw in the towel and adopt the mindset that this is the season for inevitable weight gain. Indulge at every holiday gathering, skip your workouts, and greet the mirror on New Year's Day with a long road ahead.
Here's the thing: Which of these options is genuinely the easier path?
Some might argue that Option 1 is the more challenging route, as it requires effort, planning, discipline, and willpower to eat healthy and exercise during the holiday season.
However, the truth is that Option 2 is going to cause you a lot more trouble in the long run.
If you just throw your hands up and “give up,” you’re going to have a lot of damage to undo come January.

Your workouts are going to need to be more frequent and intense, and your diet will have to be a lot more restrictive to regain all the ground you’ve lost.
Wouldn’t it be easier to cut your workouts down to 2 per week (instead of none at all)? Wouldn’t it be more reasonable to indulge in your favorite foods, but set guardrails and limits so you don’t overdo it?
Since the goal for the next five weeks is simply to maintain your current weight, you can afford to enjoy occasional treats and stick to your plan about 60 percent of the time (as opposed to 80 percent during the rest of the year).
It’s a lot more doable that way, and you’ll have a lot less damage to undo.
