5 Ways to Overcome ”Writer’s BLOCK”
Most writers say they experience some form of “Writer’s BLOCK” This is when they hit a wall and can’t seem to get anything written. This can be frustrating, annoying and costly. As a writer’s coach, I have spent countless hours walking aspiring authors through this maze. In the process, I have discovered Five-time proven techniques that help unlock the block and get the writer back writing again.
Tip #1: Begin. Often, it’s the simple things that have the best results. Many computer problems are solved just by hitting the “on” switch. I have found if the aspiring Author just begins the process, incredible things happen. There are periods that I too have experienced a dry time in my writing. I have learned to just sit down at the keyboard and start typing. After a while thoughts began to form and results occur. The first tip is just to BEGIN.
Tip #2 Let Go. All too often we have bottled up stress and other mess. This narrative is looping in our minds and causing us to not be able to be creative. Learn to Let Go. This means getting in a quiet or non-disruptive place. Shutting out the outside is often the best way to overcome the overwhelm that is causing you to be non-creative. Trying to be in control of everything often means we are in control of nothing. In essence, everything is controlling us. By letting go, you regain control and begin to see the desired results.
Tip #3 Open your mind, Of course, some things are easier done than others. To open your mind means, you must be open to new ideas and new operations. It may mean you should start meditating or learning how to be QUIET for periods of time. Opening your mind may mean doing spiritual work to relieve the negative chatter in your mind. It may mean spending time with a coach/mentor to help you align your thoughts to achieve better results. Your mind often plays tricks on you. By opening it up to new possibilities you are able to get much more done.
Tip #4 Control your Thoughts Controlling thoughts sounds like mind control or hypnoses. In fact, it is simply disciplining yourself to think in a certain way. As stated earlier, the mind has a track looping repetitively. It is often of a negative nature. In order to protect you, the mind has learned some protective practices like “Don’t Play with Fire, stay away from snakes” etc. While these learned habits may have saved you from hurt harm or danger, other Repetitive Controlling thoughts have only served to limit or hinder us. Fears, such as success or failure may be looping in our minds, making us think that either outcome could be detrimental and therefore cause a shutdown. Control your thoughts and you eliminate half your mental blockages
Tip #5 Keep at It Repetition is the mother of Skill. What you do repeatedly is what becomes your mindset and skillset. You must practice a “Ridiculous Repetitiveness”. In other words, you must write when you feel like it and when you don’t. To train your brain to engage in action and activity consistently is the best way to become accomplished at anything. Those that remain inert, not engaged in the process, will soon find that they are experiencing the Dreaded “Writer’s BLOCK” Keeping at it can end the drought and cause the creative juices to flow
These 5 tips are an Acronym that spells the Word BLOCK. If you will remember them, you will find less and less of blockages in y0ur writing and more powerful and effortless production. I like to suggest that you start using a Writer’s CLOCK to Unlock any Writer’s BLOCK. The Writer’s CLOCK means
“Clearing Limiting Obstacles Completely Knowledgeably” The CLOCK is ticking, End Writer’s BLOCK today
