Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Kandy

Wewrukannala Buduraja Maha ViharayaTemple
It is one of the most important temples of Buddha in Srilanka. It is famous for its seated Buddha. The statue is 160 ft in height and the largest statue of Buddha in all Srilanka. The statue was built in 1782 by King Rajadhi when he ruled the land. The temple has three parts one part, the first part is 250 years old, the second part models of shinners and demons shown in graphic detail. These details show what happens to you if you do not follow the path to enlightenment. The third part has an enormous seated Buddha that is as high as an eight-storied building.
Gangaramaya Temple
The temple is located on Beira Lake and was completed in the 19th century by Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Nayaka Thera. It is one of the well known Buddha temples in Srilanka. The main sanctuary is a Buddha statue while walls depict their stories. The temple also has a library, training center, museum, residential hall, and audience hall. It is not only a place of worship but also a place of learning. The monks present in the temples provide meditation education to tourists. This temple is the main feature of the Navam Perahera Festival during the February full-moon (poya) day every year and is the center for the lavish Vesak celebrations.
Golden Temple of Dambulla
It is also known as “Dambulla cave temple” famous for Buddha statues and paintings. The temple is composed of five caves of varying sizes. These caves are major attractions as they contain statues and paintings. There are more than 150 Buddha statues, three statues of Srilankan Kings, and four statues of God and Goddess. The cave is important for both Buddhists and Hindus. The first cave is called Devaraja Lena, the second cave is called Maharaja Lena while the third cave is called Maha Alut Vihara.
Thiruketheeswaram Kovil
The famous Hindu temple related to Lord Shiva is also called as “Pancha Ishwaram”, one of five lord shiva temples in Srilanka that were built to prevent Srilanka from disasters. The interior walls of the temples are painted with pictures of Lord Shiva while exterior walls have statues. The temple is famous for the festival of Mahashivratri, the famous festivals of Lord Shiva.
