1. Women travelling solo – This year, female travellers exploring solo are set to be a key travel demographic. The US Travel Association found that in 2024, searches on Google for ‘solo female travel’ were up 131 per cent from 2023. This trend looks to be continuing into 2025 with research from Future Partners finding 40 per cent of female respondents are interested in travelling solo (8 per cent higher than in 2024).
2. Supply chain challenges – The supply chain challenges that plagued the industry in 2024 seem to be here to stay. In December, The International Air Transport Association released its 2025 financial outlook for the global airline industry, predicting that supply issues will compromise industry revenues in the coming year.
3. Nostalgia – One of the most talked about trends for 2025 is a wave of nostalgia or “New Heydays” influencing destination selection. In their Travel Trends for 2025, Amadeus and Globetrender predicted destinations based on iconic eras like the 90s and Roaring Twenties will be popular and more people will be taking a trip down memory lane, reliving favourite trips from the past.
4. Artificial intelligence (AI) – AI and gen-AI may have been the buzzwords of 2024, but they are expected to play a key role in travel planning this year too with AI-powered itineraries and AI-travel assistants. Aer Lingus research showed that 1 in 3 people plan to use AI for trip planning this year.
