Five Tips to Help You Prepare for Your Next Interview

Five Tips to Help You Prepare for Your Next Interview

When preparing for your next interview, consider what areas you need to work on while thinking about that upcoming interview.

Here are some examples I’ve heard recently:

“I have a difficult time articulating my story during an interview. I want to gain confidence during interviews.”

“My responses aren’t polished. I need to do a better job answering questions during an interview.”

“I have a hard time relaying my work experiences. I feel as if I don’t make any sense.”?

In a perfect world, you have plenty of time to prepare for your interview, but we know that isn’t the case. Sometimes, there isn’t enough time to prepare for an interview, especially when the company wants to hire someone quickly and they are INTERESTED in who you are and what you do and want to talk to you ASAP.

How can you maximize your time and be prepared for your interview?

After all, it may be the dream job you’ve been wanting.

Here are a few tips to help you:

1.????Research the company and the position. Look at their website and social media. What piques your interest in them and your potential to work for them?

2.????Ask people in your network what they know about the company and position. Leverage your network to learn as much as you can.

3.????Practice. Rehearse questions you believe you will be asked. Record yourself on video or your phone. Listen to what you say and how you say it. Modify your word choices or tone if necessary.

4.????Fine-tune how clearly and concisely you tell your story. Strive to keep your responses between 90-120 seconds to allow for dialogue and conversation about your answer.

5.????Relax. If you’ve been invited to interview, your experience is more than enough to be a highly-considered candidate. Don’t let your inner critic tell you otherwise.

Gathering your thoughts and putting them together in a few cohesive sentences doesn’t have to be tricky or complicated. I use sentence starters as a strategy to help my clients. For example, I give them a few words to start their sentence, and they finish it. How helpful would it be to have something similar to help you with your next interview?

I created a new 40-page guide with 26 different sentence starters to help you prepare for your next interview. Plus, there’s a ten-minute video explaining your interview prep and how to use the guide.
