Here's what you should know about the leader:
Seeing Green?
Koepka stands at 12-under through two rounds. He is only the fourth player at 12-under or better through 36 holes. Jordan Spieth was 14-under at the midway point in 2015, Raymond Floyd was 13- under in 1976 and Greg Norman was 12-under in 1996. Norman is the only one who did not go on to win the Masters.
Proven Comodity?
Koepka is a four-time major champion. He won the U.S. Open in 2017 and 2018 and the PGA Championship in 2018 and 2019. He nearly won the Green Jacket in 2019 but finished second to Tiger Woods.
Good To Be No. 1
Late in 2018, he ascended to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking. He spent 47 weeks in the top spot.
Happy And Healthy
The strong start, Koepka said, is the result of finally being fully healthy. Koepka shattered his kneecap and ruptured his medial patellofemoral ligament in 2021 when he slipped at his home. Doctors told him it would be 18 months before he felt like himself again.
All-Star Family
He has some athletic genes. His great uncle Dick Groat played 14 years of Major League Baseball and was the National League MVP in 1960.
