Five things to consider before installing solar panels on a roof. If you’re considering having solar panels on your roof, there are a few things you need to consider first. Solar energy is a terrific way to save money and reduce your carbon footprint, but only if it’s done right. Here are five key points to consider before investing in solar power:
1. Safety
Solar panels are generally installed on roofs, which can be a dangerous place to work. Ensure you have an excellent safety rail system before you start work to prevent falls. No point in saving money if you are not around to enjoy it.
2. Support
If your roof is shaded for the better part of the day all year round, investing in a solar system may not be worth it. Solar panels need direct sunlight to work effectively, so a shady roof won’t produce enough energy to make the investment worthwhile.
3. Condition
Solar panels will add substantial weight to your roof, so it needs to be in good condition to support them. If your roof has structural damage, it may not be able to handle support the weight.?
4. Angle
Solar panels are best installed at a specific angle to maximize their efficiency, so the pitch of your roof will need to be considered.
5. Size
The size of your roof will determine the number of solar panels that can be installed. A larger roof will be able to support more panels than a smaller one.
