Five Takeaways from #BuckeyeLove Day

Five Takeaways from #BuckeyeLove Day

Ohio State celebrated #BuckeyeLove last Thursday on Random Act of Kindness Day. We spread the #BuckeyeLove throughout campus and at our medical center. We wanted everyone to remember when in doubt, be kind.

Here are my five takeaways from the day:

1.??????Twenty staff members emptied out of the bus, and we were there to give every staff member a cookie, card and a quick thank you as they hustled to start their day. The bus didn’t take off and I hopped on the bus to make sure to thank the bus driver. I thanked them for all they do for all of us. The bus driver was noticeably touched by it and said they weren’t ever remembered for stuff like this.

??????Let’s make sure we always remember that everyone matters.

2.??????Make sure you volunteer to be a part of this day.

Your bucket gets filled by sharing kindness.

3.??????I have always struggled to thank leaders because (let’s be honest) you don’t want them to think you are a “suck up”. We need to rethink this attitude. When you have a leader who advocates for the team, leads with integrity and genuinely cares about their people, then we need to say thank you. I decided I needed to thank a leader who has really made a lot of sacrifices the last couple years for all of us at the medical center. I gave them a small gift and wrote a nice note thanking them for their leadership. They thanked me when I dropped it off and then sent a note the next day to say that it meant A LOT.

Our leaders’ buckets need filled too.

4.??????If my Ohio State senior calls me next year on #BuckeyeLove Day to say she appreciates me, I need to remember I might end up in an Ohio State video. Watch this #BuckeyeLove recap video.

Never forget how easy it is to make someone’s day.

5.??????I sent a #BuckeyeLove ecard to every colleague in my department to send some #BuckeyeLove their way. When it isn’t difficult to write a thoughtful note to every single person in your department, you work at a special place.

I am thankful to be a Buckeye.
