FIVE STEPS TO OVERCOMING SUICIDAL THOUGHTS
If you’re having suicidal thoughts, know that you’re not alone. You should also know that feeling suicidal isn’t a CHARACTER FLAW, and it doesn’t mean you’re crazy or weak. It only signifies that you’re experiencing more pain or sadness than you can cope with right now.
So, having depression or struggling with suicidal thoughts is not a bad thing. Trust me, there must be many people out there who thought of ending their life at some point of time. But they are still alive and ace their life.
There might be many moments when you feel like ending your life; coz the pain is so overwhelming to you. So you should take certain precaution when you witness this severe shift in your thoughts. This also applies to those who can see that their loved ones are going through this rough patch. Understand… Precaution is better than cure.
Without further ado, let’s jump right into 5 simple steps to overcoming suicidal thoughts
1. REMOVE YOURSELF FROM DANGER OR (IF SAFE) STAY WHERE YOU ARE
Thoughts of suicide hit the hardest when you are in potentially dangerous place like standing in the balcony, waiting for a train or potentially harmful situation.
When this happens, push yourself…. Not across the balcony; but inside the room or in a save place. You can’t push someone you love across the balcony- so why do it for yourself. LOVE YOURSELF- JUST THE WAY YOU LOVE YOUR LOVED ONES.
2. AVOID DRUGS AND ALCOHOL
Dahhh.. It’s pretty obvious that those chemical reactions can make you do things that you have never dreamt before. Also, these drugs and alcohol can mess up your mind more than what your current situation is.
So don’t throw yourself off the balcony.. just throw the damn bottle of whiskey or vodka or whatever you have been drinking or smoking. This is the real culprit.
In short, don't become "Babu Rao of Hera Pheri" when it comes to drinking. Coz Babu Rao can never think of committing suicide.. He loves his life.
Do you remember those lines from Hera Pheri, "Utha le re baba.. Utha le.. Mujhko Nahi.. Inn gareebo ko utha le.. "
3. SLOW YOUR BREATHING
Whenever you feel overwhelmed, just take a pause and slow down your breathing. Focus on your breathing. Slowing your breathing helps slow your heart rate and supplies more oxygen to your brain, while also shifting your attention away from whatever thoughts you’re having.
4. GET RID OF DANGER
The funny part of depression or having suicidal thoughts is that there will always be a voice inside you who doesn’t want you to die. Period.
Hold on to that voice - and block all the noise.
But first thing first, ask any of your friends or family to remove all the potential dangerous items that might get you take your own life. This could be medicines, knife, ropes etc. (I am not giving you ideas by listing all the potentially dangerous items.. :) ; This is me trying to help virtually)
Even ask them to lock that damn balcony too.. and ask them to stay with you ALL THE TIME. You can even play or dance on your favourite song, if you want.
5. REACH OUT
If all these things doesn’t work and you are still on the verge of committing suicide, just call someone.. anyone.. even on 100 number. I am sure they can give you company.
Just hold on to the voice inside you.. who doesn’t want you to die.
That voice is Self Love- this voice inside you who has made plans for the future. Just hold on to that.
Also, according to the research, 90% of the people who attempt to commit suicide- FAIL. And in our country committing suicide is a CRIME. And if you survive (with the grace of god), you might be ARRESTED for committing crime. So why bother yourself even more than you might already think you are.
JUST LOVE YOURSELF- The way you LOVE YOUR LOVED ONES.
This is the only key to get through the rough patch of your life. It’s just a phase- It will pass..
