Five simple ways to improve the impact of our business decisions

Five simple ways to improve the impact of our business decisions

I was lucky enough to visit the Edinburgh Fringe last week. Not only was it inspiring, insightful and fun - it seemed even more inclusive (everybody belongs at the Fringe!), and a bit more edgy than previous years.

My personal highlight was the?Grayson Perry Exhibition; highly recommended for anyone wanting to better understand why we are where we are as a country, and what we can do to improve.

And on that note, our focus this week is all about?improvement.

It’s pretty universally agreed that the world is in a pickle and it’s time for a radical rethink. We cannot carry on as we are; it is simply unsustainable.

So what are we going to do differently?

We need to think a bit more and take a more impactful approach to decision-making.

As business leaders each decision we make offers an opportunity and responsibility to shape a better future for all.

Here are some suggestions for more impactful decision-making, based on the work we do with our?B Corp?clients:

  1. Stakeholder Alignment and Inclusivity:?Before making a decision, analyse how it will affect your stakeholders – employees, customers, local communities, suppliers, and the environment. The well-being of our stakeholders should be our primary consideration.
  2. Long-Term Impact:?What are the long-term consequences of your decision? How will it impact the environment, not only in terms of immediate effects but also in terms of future generations? Prioritise options that promote environmental sustainability and reduce your carbon footprint.
  3. Ethical and Social Responsibility:?Does it feel like the right thing to do? Prioritise fair treatment of people, equity, and social justice.
  4. Community Engagement and Empowerment:?Consider how your decision will impact the communities surrounding your business. Supporting local economies and contributing positively to community development can foster goodwill and sustainable growth.
  5. Innovation and Positive Influence:?How does your decision align with your ability to drive positive change within your industry? Can this decision serve as a model for others, encouraging them to adopt similar practices? Prioritise decisions that lead to innovative solutions, inspire others to follow suit, and contribute to the collective effort of creating a more sustainable and better business landscape.

By evaluating your decisions using these five factors, you'll be better equipped to make choices that not only benefit your business in the short term but also contribute to the well-being of people, communities, and the planet in the long run.

Have a great rest of the week and do let us know if you are changing the way you are doing business for Good.

We’re always keen to showcase businesses who are shaping a better world.

Best wishes,

Donna
