Five signs you are a creative person.

Creative people are a funny bunch, often referred to as the outsiders, the square pegs trying to fit into roles holes. But in reality all humans are creative, it's part of the DNA, it's what helped us claw our way out of cave dwellings and into the future with inventions, ideas, art, and innovative thinking.

So for my Friday Five today I am give you five signs you are creative.

1. You're a problem solver. You enjoy the challenge, be it big or small, of finding a solution to something. It can eat away at you, keep you up at night, and distract you endlessly. You love looking for the idea, the path, and the way to a new answer.
2. You have boundless curiosity. Things catch your eye, you're a people watcher, you look around the world you're in, you question things, and you find beauty or fascination in the new things you discover.
3. You're a bit different. But aren't we all. Unless you're an identical twin you are different (but even identical twins have differences), we are all different, that's what makes us who we are. Quite often it's your little idiosyncrasies that can spur on ideas and new thinking. That left of field imagination, those wild ideas that could border on genius...they are all good in one way or another. Who cares if you like to dye your hair three different colours at once, or if you have a preference for wearing different style shoes on each foot, or if you like to wear three-piece suits to the beach. It's nobody's business but yours. Be yourself. Revel in it. Conformity is a boat anchor to creativity. Celebrate what others may see as silly.
4. Your inner child is still alive. One of my favourite sayings is - 'The creative adult is the child who survived'. When we were young we were all wildly creative, we had unbridled imaginations, we could dream up scenarios and ideas to rival the best storytellers in Hollywood. But then school came along where we were all shuffled into boring rooms to sit at little desks and be drilled with the same thoughts and processes day in and day out. During that time some of us took different paths and let go of that crazy kid within while others kept the fire burning. The good thing is that rambunctious child with the wild ideas is still in there somewhere. You just need to dig a little.
5. You are your own worst critic. Self-doubt is natural and many a creative person also suffers from 'creative impostor syndrome'. Once you accept it you can push past it. I can almost guarantee you without a shadow of a doubt the most successful people, be they creative or not, do at some stage suffer from bouts of self-doubt...we're all only human after all. The inner critic is the creative person's kryptonite and none of us are Superman/woman, but it should not stop you pursuing your creative passions. If it becomes crippling then I implore you to seek out some advice or help to get you past it.

I know there are many more signs of what makes someone creative but I feel these five are a good summation. The moral is that we are all creative, some of us pursued it as a career, some turn to it as a hobby. But for those who let it go entirely yet have a desire to resurrect it then I say do it. You can be creative at any stage of your life, the only one stopping you following your creative inner voice is you. Oh, and if you happen to be in a very straight-laced job and you suddenly turn up to your office with multicoloured hair and different style shoes on each foot I tip my hat to you...here's to the square pegs, may you flourish in a world of round holes.
