Five Sculptures to Reflect On
Lorenzo Quinn, known as the Michelangelo of our time, dives deep into the heart of human emotions and our connection with the world. Here are his top five sculptures. Let's see what you think!??
Italian sculptor Lorenzo Quinn captivates with profound messages in his works, blending classic art with modern dynamics. His sculptures connect the past with a vision for the future.
“I wish that, if my art does anything, it provokes actions of kindness which will give hope to the world.” - Lorenzo Quinn
Just a little note: Quinn, humble about comparisons to Michelangelo, asserts, "There's only one Michelangelo."
1- Support
One of Quinn's most famous works is "Support" created for the 2017 Venice Biennale. The sculpture, which features hands holding up Venice's famous Sagredo Hotel, was designed as a message about global warming and climate change. It aims to remind us of the rising sea levels threatening Venice and all coastal cities around the world.
2- Harmony
The Yin-Yang from Chinese philosophy inspired the "Harmony". It represents the perfect balance in nature and human relationships.
“I have always been attracted to the symbol of yin and yang in which couples can see themselves reflected. Each person fills a space that the other is missing, thereby creating a single whole in perfect harmony.” - Lorenzo Quinn
3- Building Bridges
"Building Bridges" is one of Lorenzo Quinn's most heartfelt projects. Six pairs of gigantic hands symbolize six universal human values: Friendship, Faith, Help, Love, Hope, and Wisdom. Each hand represents people coming together, uniting differences to build a better world.
4- Give
“Give and expect nothing in return, the rewards will be immense.” - Lorenzo Quinn
Quinn emphasizes that the humanity is at a crossroads, and that we are living in a precarious balance with the nature.
5- Forever is Now
The "Forever is Now" series' "Together" piece, made of wires and constantly shifting, overlapping shadows, is located south of the pyramids. It was born in 2020 as a result of the isolation caused by the pandemic. It's a beautiful reminder of the importance of our connections with others.
Now, a question for you: Have you noticed that Lorenzo often works with “hands”? It's clear that the artist loves incorporating hands into his art. When asked why, he responded, “The hand holds so much power – the power to love, to hate, to create, to destroy.”
