FIVE RULES to guarantee you ACCOMPLISH MORE

FIVE RULES to guarantee you ACCOMPLISH MORE

- BE EVEN MORE SUPER PRODUCTIVE, FROM TODAY ...

There are thousands of ways you can accomplish productivity, but these five ways are far more effective than others.

1. A rough schedule works fine.

Keep a short to-do list for each day. Just the big stuff, the goal here is to focus on your biggest must-complete tasks. Organize these tasks into a schedule. However, if you have a hard time getting started, put a very small to-do at the beginning of your day to give yourself a quick win and get the ball rolling. Ideally, do that plan the night before, then you separate planning from execution.

2. Put the alarm clock on the opposite side of the bedroom

If you have even a little bit of trouble getting out of bed in the morning, put your alarm clock on the opposite side of the bedroom so that you’re forced to get up to turn it off. That small amount of physical activity will go a long way toward waking you up.  And make your bed!

3. Ignore your smart phone, don't fall for FOMO (the Fear of Missing Out syndrome)

Rarely, if ever, is there something of such urgency that you need to scan your smartphone every seven minutes. SWITCH IT OFF, check for really, truly, urgent messages in a scheduled “check messages” break, avoid being sucked into 30 minutes on Facebook or Twitter until after you have completed your major tasks.

4. Get a timer and set between 45 and 55 minutes.

Once you start work, concentrate for a specific period. Let the timer signal get up, stretch, stroke the cat (if you have one), walk around the room, jump up and down – just let your brain cells take a “stretch break” (but no longer than 5 or ten minutes), then sit down, set the timer and get going. You will be amazed at how much you accomplish in these bursts of concentration.  And you will not get bored of fatigued.

5. Plan your weekend on Thursday

One of the biggest wastes of time and mental energy is spending your weekend juggling last-minute plans. This leads to all sorts of problems including stress, showing up late, and missing out on events you wanted to go to because you didn’t plan ahead.  Before you go to bed on Thursday night, you should know exactly what you’ll be doing all weekend. And you have something to look forward to.

Bonus: meditate a few minutes day

Meditation is one of the most proven, time-tested ways to clear out mental clutter and improve your thinking ability and emotional well-being. Incredibly, just a few minutes a day can be enough to produce noticeable benefits.

Just sit down in a comfortable chair, in a quiet place, close your eyes, and relax. Quiet your mind and focus on breathing as deeply as possible.

Importantly: do this every day for at least five minutes, consistency beats duration here.

Nice list Bill. I find that exercise early in the morning is a great way to get physical exercise ahead of the mental exercise for the rest of the day.
