Are you struggling with your job search because no employer seems to call you for an interview? Your resume might be the reason behind the radio silence. There is a fierce competition for every available opportunity in the job market right now. Your resume must be top-notch to grab a hiring manager’s attention and impress them enough to call you for an interview.
Here are five reasons that your resume has failed to do its duty:
Your resume has no impact
Did you know that hiring managers spend less than seven seconds on a resume before judging it? Yes, that is just under seven Mississippi’s when you get to wow a potential employer and show off your skills a little. Hiring managers?sort through piles of resumes?every day. Your resume must have something special to spark their interest. Ensure that you have included your best professional achievements on your resume, formatted in a way that hiring managers will spot them first.
Your resume has a poor layout
The visual appearance of your resume matters a lot. Consider that you are a hiring manager. You are given two resumes: one has large blocks of text with very less white space, the other is broken into bullet points and has a lot of white space. Which resume will you be tempted to read? Obviously, the one with less text density.?Ensure that your resume has an appropriate text density?when you list your qualifications. Clearly define resume sections and separate them.

Your resume is too long
Sending a resume that is five pages long will tell the employer that you lack the capacity to summarize information. Your resume is not an autobiography of your entire life. You don’t need to mention every job you have had in the past or your high school graduation details on your resume.?Keep your resume between one and three pages?for a maximum impact. Add only the most relevant details to the position.
Your resume lacks accomplishments
Professional achievements and accomplishments are the gems that?make your resume truly shine. Emphasize your achievements on your resume in a way that recruiters can’t miss. Use bullet points to highlight achievements. It is important to add more relevant achievements towards the top of your resume where a hiring manager is sure to see them. You can even create a separate achievements section for your resume.
Your resume has multiple mistakes
While a hiring manager will not throw your resume in the trash for having one typing mistake, they won’t tolerate a whole lot of mistakes from a job seeker. Sending in a resume riddled with mistakes tells employers that you pay no attention to detail and produce poor quality work. It also shows them that you did not take the time to proofread your resume. You don’t want to be labeled as a careless candidate by a potential employer because of a simple mistake on your resume. Therefore, always?proofread your resume?before you send it out.
