Five Reasons to Use a Travel Agent for your Business Travel Needs

Five Reasons to Use a Travel Agent for your Business Travel Needs

Sure you can go online and book your own business trip and there are plenty of options to do that. There's Expedia, Priceline, Travelocity, and countless of other sites for you to book flights and hotels. So why should you use a travel agent for business travel? Here are five great reasons.

  1. It's free! That's right it's free to use a travel agent because you don't pay for their services the hotels, airlines, ground transportation, and tour operators do, through commissions. It's like having a dedicated team member who takes care of your travel arrangements, but you don't have to pay them to do it.
  2. They're travel professionals. To become certified as a travel agent you must take courses and pass tests before you can start selling. A good travel agent knows when to go, where to go, and how best to get you there. They'll have relationships with suppliers that can address specific needs that the online travel companies can't and they'll have connections that will help your travel go smoothly. When you need a plumber or a dentist you call a professional right? Travel is the same thing. Call a pro and get it done right the first time.
  3. It saves you time. To plan the hotels, flights, restaurants, transfers, ground transportation, and all the other things involved in business travel it takes time. Does your office manager have better things to do than to spend an afternoon arranging everything or would their time be better spent doing other tasks? A few minutes with a travel agent, their job is done, and they can get back to more important tasks.
  4. It saves you money! Everyday I get a ton of emails listing discounts and deals that the normal customer doesn't get or see. There are group discounts, price matching options, and free upgrades available to travel agents that are not available to someone using the online travel services. Again, let the travel agent do their job and find you the best deal.
  5. They are problem solvers. Have you ever had a problem traveling? Missed flight, wrong room, lost luggage, or the wrong date on a reservation? There's plenty that can go wrong and a travel agent is there to fix those problems. Often times a phone call, or email, from your agent can get the problem fixed quickly and without too much stress. We, as travel agents, bring a lot of business to our suppliers so they tend to listen to us when something needs to be addressed. It's a good thing to have someone to call when there are problems with your travel, and those things do happen.

Great point - we complain about this at my govt job all the time... there used to be a travel agent on every base that would book all your travel but now we all fight this ridiculous system called DTS.? I've literally spent more time trying to get everything straight in DTS than I spent actually on travel.? As a small business owner, I seriously don't have that kind of time.
