Five Reasons for the Itch to Switch!

Five Reasons for the Itch to Switch!

Let’s call it the fear of the unknown, but a large number of people hang on to jobs they should have quit a long time ago. The feeling surfaces most notably at the end of an appraisal year, only to be examined and put away, perhaps wasting a valuableproductive year that could have been put to great use.

No doubt, the feeling of security is comforting. In fact, it’s usually difficult to decipher whether it really is the time to quit. For those of you, who are wondering if it’s time to move on, here are the signs you should not ignore.

  1. You Just Don’t Feel Like Going to Work Anymore

Sometimes this feeling is inexplicable. Sometimes you already know the reasons. If you have been feeling like you don’t want to go in to work consistently or the feeling disappears for some time only to come right back, take it seriously. From the lack of new challenges and growth opportunities or workplace favoritism to the distance you have to travel, anything can give rise to this symptom. But the diagnosis is clear – you need a new job.

     2. You Feel out of Place

It might be true, you could be a cultural misfit in the organization. The worst case might be that you really don’t get along with your team. You have the ‘I am unwanted’ or ‘I am not a part of them’ feeling surfacing quite often. While you can keep going for a while, finally, you will need to find an organisation that offers a strong cultural fit. Moving to an environment that is more conducive will only help you perform better.

     3. You Are Having a Hard Time with Your Boss

You have no left no stone upturned in doing your job well. But, when it comes to your boss, every move you make seems to be wrong. You are constantly worried about pleasing him/her, nothing you do ever seems to be enough, you get told off often, your projects get reassigned, you get a cold shoulder or snide remarks… It is time to move because sometimes you just can’t fix it.

    4. Your Company Is Going Downhill

We don’t mean that you should be the first to abandon a sinking ship, but if you know that it is going to be tough and only get tougher for your company it’s best to read the writing on the wall. Profits are shrinking, clients are unhappy, business is down, the best people are leaving and morale is low… Before they fire you, let someone else hire you.

    5. Your Industry Is Falling Behind

A turbulent economic climate, new technology, changing regulations, new business formats, global markets… what was true for your industry yesterday many not hold good today. Tough as it can seem, ask yourself which other industries could use your expertise or upgrade your skills in a way that will add to your resume. Make the switch to an industry that will thrive in a new world.

Is it time for you to switch?
