Five Reasons Business Overlook SEO and Miss Huge Opportunities

Most businesses turn straight to PPC or social media to get their brand recognized, but why are some businesses overlooking the power of SEO and missing opportunity?

They don’t know where to start

Huge worldwide brands have more than likely been working on their SEO for years, with some serious budget injected into the best people and strategies. This can be intimidating for start-ups and small brands, as they believe they can never match the budget. This is no reason to throw in the towel. Working on ranking higher for local listings provides way more opportunity to get ranking faster.

It can be a long game

The downfall of SEO is that Its long game and can take years to achieve the results you want to, but it is also one of the most efficient ways to direct traffic to your site. Being high in the organic listings establishes brand authority, clicks are free and you can be assured your site is relevant to the user’s search query.

They think people will visit their website anyway

A common misunderstanding is that users will visit your website regardless of whether they are on the Google SERP (search engine results page) or not. Unless users have a direct link to your website, they will more than likely Google you, so if you’re not there then users won’t know how to get to your site.

They think optimizing their website content is enough

SEO falls into three main categories, on-page SEO, off-page SEO and Technical SEO. The age-old ‘content is king’ strategy alone isn’t enough anymore. Google takes into account if the content is relevant, but also how your website functions, how many other sites think you're worthy enough to link to, how often you refresh your site and keep it up-to-date, how many users bounce away from your website, how quickly it loads, the list goes on. Google has a goal of showing users the best results because if it didn’t, it wouldn’t be the most used search engine in the world.

They’re scared of Black Hat SEO

Google continuously rolls out new algorithms to keep its platform up to date. Some businesses that use black hat SEO techniques i.e. buying links, get severely penalized by Google, resulting in years of hard work of SEO going down the drain. It’s important if you use an agency to monitor their work to ensure no black hat SEO techniques are being used which could potentially harm your site’s ranking in the future.
