Five Professionals Who Are Leaving Money on the Table Until They Publish Their Book

This one is for the go-getters, rockstar achievers, and change-makers! And if you and I are connected on LinkedIn, then this means I'm talking to you, my friend!

Let’s talk about something exciting—extra streams of income. Yes, we're talking about the money you could be leaving on the table by not writing that book! If you’ve got experience, skills, or knowledge, you’re already sitting on a treasure chest of expertise. But guess what? Without a book, you’ve left the lid on it. Let me convince you to take it off and let the coins spill out.

Here are the five types of professionals who will absolutely claim money they’re missing out on as soon as they become published authors:

1. The Business Coach or Consultant?

If you're out here guiding businesses, organizations, or individuals to success, then a book is your next best move. I know you’re a rockstar at getting results for your clients, but what happens when your schedule fills up or you can't physically take on more one-on-one clients? A book does the heavy lifting for you! It allows you to share your expertise with a larger audience, extend your reach, and—wait for it—charge more for your services. You’ve worked hard to gain your knowledge, and a book cements your credibility in ways that just talking about it never could.

Your book becomes an elevated business card; the signature that says, "I’m the go-to expert." That means more speaking gigs, higher fees, and additional revenue streams. Plus, nothing feels quite as fabulous as when you get that “author” tag added to your bio. So, what are you waiting for?

2. The Educator or Trainer?

Listen, if you’re teaching people how to do something—whether it’s how to code, how to bake gourmet cupcakes, or how to negotiate contracts—then a book is a no-brainer. Right now, you’re reaching people in your classroom, at your workshops, or on Zoom calls, but a book takes your message far beyond those spaces. It positions you as the expert in your niche. (Check this—Did you know YOURS TRULY started her career as an educator?? Yep.? I sure did!)

A published book can also turn into a textbook or supplementary material for the courses you're already teaching. And textbooks mean royalties. Imagine getting paid again for the material you already developed! Add in the opportunities to license your content, develop a certification program, or launch your own curriculum based on your book, and we’re talking multiple streams of income. Can I get an amen?

3. The Public Speaker or Motivational Speaker?

You’re already captivating audiences with your story or message. You inspire, you move people to action, and you’ve got them on the edge of their seats. What’s next? Give them a way to take you home with them—a book!?

After your keynote or workshop, people want more of what you shared. A book gives them a tangible piece of you, plus it turns every speaking event into an opportunity to sell books at the back of the room, add value to your clients, and leave a lasting impact. I had been a professional speaker for 18 years before this hit me—18 YEARS!? Now, there is seldom a conference I speak at where I’m not also having my book sold in the conference bookstore, and sometimes I’m even fortunate enough to have the conference host a book signing.? And it's even better if I can show up to the book signing wearing an inflatable doughnut around my waist … True story. In September, I had one of those rare instances where the conference I was speaking at was local, and my family and I got to enjoy a mini staycation; however, when my son departed with my husband to go to school that Monday morning, he (inadvertently) left his pool float for ME to deal with it not knowing I can make the most of any situation ... Never leave me to my own devices, kid!

Seriously, though, let me tell you something: A book boosts your visibility, helps you command higher speaking fees, and gets your name circulating in places your feet haven’t even stepped into yet. Don’t just speak about your success; write about it and watch your opportunities (and income) explode.

4. The Corporate Trainer or Learning and Development Professional?

You’re already shaping the future of teams and organizations by helping employees reach their highest potential. But check this out… All that knowledge you’ve been sharing in workshops and training sessions can easily be transformed into a book. And trust me, companies love buying books in bulk to train their teams.

Once you're published, your book becomes a built-in marketing tool that showcases your expertise. You’re not just a trainer; you’re an authority on a subject. The difference? Authorities get higher contracts and are in greater demand. Add a book to your portfolio, and watch the offers roll in from organizations wanting to bring you in for workshops and training based on your content.

5. The Entrepreneur or Small Business Owner?

Last but certainly not least, to all my entrepreneurs out there, if you’re selling a product or service, you need a book. Period. A book is one of the best ways to build brand authority and create trust with your audience. It’s like you’re offering a sneak peek into the genius that created your business in the first place.

A book gives your clients insight into how you built your business, overcame challenges, and created success. Not only will a book bring you more customers, but it also opens the door for you to branch into speaking engagements, coaching, or even licensing your business model to others. If you’re an entrepreneur, a book is your next marketing tool disguised as a revenue stream.

So, what are you waiting for? If you see yourself on this list—and I know you do—it’s time to stop leaving money on the table. Share your knowledge, grow your brand, and get paid in ways you never imagined. Writing a book is not just about sharing your story; it’s about elevating your career, building your reputation, and, yes, getting those coins!
