The Five Principles of Happiness

The Five Principles of Happiness

Happiness is a state of mind that we all strive to attain. However, finding out what truly makes us happy is not an easy task. We’ll find ourselves often wondering “How can I be happy?”

You may find happiness when you get what you want or achieve a peak state of performance, but that state of happiness is not everlasting. The only way to truly be happy long term is to be in a state of constant progress. If you are moving forward on your path to a higher state of being, you can feel good about yourself.?

Though progress is at the core of happiness, here are five principles to help you find more joy along the way. Let’s dive into those five principles that will make you thrive, feel happier, become more focused and energised.?

1. Feed and condition your mind

Happiness comes down to where you direct your thoughts. To take control of your focus, you should be feeding your soul. So to become the best possible version of yourself, you need to give your mind the most nutritious content possible. To find ways to be happy, you should examine your internal thoughts first and foremost. It would be best if you learned to refocus your thoughts on something positive. One way of doing that is by spending 30 minutes a day reading something substantive such as biographies of inspirational people, science and history, and any other concept you’re curious about.?

2. Strengthen your body daily

It does not matter how much you feed your mind; you won’t be able to make progress in your life if your body stays the same. Your mind and body are constantly influencing each other. Changing how your body feels and works will help you change your mind. You can do so by adopting a sustainable, healthy diet and avoiding food additives, sugar and other harmful substances. It would help if you also were aiming to exercise for at least five days a week and pushing yourself so that your heartbeat increases for at least 10 minutes. Finally, create a daily ritual that helps you jump-start your energy and get your metabolism firing up early.

3. Get a role model

Role models teach us how to be better people and how to feel happy. When we are seeking happiness, it is best to look at how others have achieved the same thing. By watching your role models, you can replicate to achieve the same result. Find your role model and examine his life to be able to pursue your happiness in the same way.?

4. Proximity is power

Learn to put yourself in environments that are larger than you’re used to playing in. If you’re spending time with someone better than you, you’ll improve quickly. If you hang around consistently negative people, chances are you will be too. Find people who are abundantly grateful and see how your attitude in life will change.

5. Give more than you expect to receive

Giving will help change your state of mind more than you can imagine. Giving without expecting anything in return will provide you with more energy to do the previous four things. Try to find someone worse off than you and help them, even if just for 10 minutes a month. Remember that the secret to living is giving and that will genuinely make you feel happy

When you put those five principles in practice, you will find yourself more fulfilled in every aspect of your life, and you will have more meaningful experiences regularly.
