Five Licenses that will make you $5,000 every month during this Pandemic - No Fluff

It is no joke what the coronavirus pandemic has brought to the reality of how we now live. Over 52 Million Americans filed for unemployment benefits in the year 2020; that's one-third of the workforce, not to mention the businesses that shutdown. What of the essential workers like the doctors and nurses, policemen and women, etc. that are at the forefront of the war against COVID-19?

It is a sad reality that a virus not only shut down the world but is now shutting down the dreams and goals of well-meaning people. Despite all that is going on and the lack that is crippling 95% of the population, there are certain professions and licenses that have continued to stay relevant, maybe even done better because of the virus.

In this article, I will share with you five licenses that you can get that can give you an income of about $5,000 every month if you are really serious about making a difference in your life and that of your family. These licenses have allowed many to prosper during these times and the good part is that you can get the license if you so desire. Another great news is that you don’t need any college degree to get these licenses. Here they are:

1. Drivers License

No alt text provided for this image

This may sound funny, and I guess you may have your driver’s license in place, but if you take a deep look, you can make about $150 - $200 daily with your regular state drivers’ license. The demand for shared economy gigs like uber eats, Doordash, Postmates, has skyrocketed during the pandemic. The reason is obvious; people are stuck at home yet they need to get food delivered to them. Without overthinking it, and throwing your ego out of the window, you can turn your driver’s license into a money machine.

This lockdown period will probably continue for a while, so dust yourself up and apply to deliver with one of the shared economy services (Doordash, Ubereats, Postmates, etc.) today. If you’ve also got a clean car that qualifies to drive with Uber or Lyft, then that can buffer up your income.

Investment needed: Outside of the cost of your driver’s license ($35-$50), you will need a vehicle ( $2,000 at least to be safe) or if you want to drive Uber or Lyft you may be looking at anywhere $7,500+ (Just go get a car note- if approved)

Time commitment: You may need between 10 to 12 hours of daily driving to make $5,000 in a month.

2. Heavy Tractor Trailer/ Truck Drivers

Well, this is another level of driver’s license. You get to use huge, heavy tractor-trailers/trucks for transporting goods from one location to another. Most tractor-trailer drivers are long-haul drivers and operate trucks with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) capacity—that is, the combined weight of the vehicle, passengers, and cargo—exceeding 26,000 pounds. These drivers deliver goods over intercity routes, sometimes spanning several states.

The reason this license is also valuable in that the velocity with which goods move cross-country has skyrocketed due to heavy online shopping. Now you do a lot of shopping online, not knowing exactly where the goods are coming from.

Due to the demand for the service, you may make from $4,000 to $7,000 per month based on experience.

Cost of Licensing

The cost of licensing is about $100. However, you need to go to truck school to get some experience before you can pass, it will cost you about $3,000 to $11,000 depending on whether you go to a licensed, certified, or accredited school.

Time commitment: Average of 7 weeks. It may take anywhere from 3 weeks to 6 months to become a Commercial Driver.

To make $5,000 monthly as a new truck driver, You may be expected to work up to 70 hours over an eight-day period. After you've worked for 70 hours, you cannot drive again until you take a full 34 hours off duty. The 70-hour limit could be reached by working 14-hour days, but you cannot drive for more than 11 hours in a day. You must conclude your "Hours of Service" with a 10-hour break.

3. Life Insurance Agent

Life insurance agents are licensed professionals who sell life insurance. They will work for an insurance company and sell policies “carried” by that insurance company or can work more independently and are able to sell life insurance from a range of companies.

The pandemic has brought to the forefront a huge need for life insurance. Listen, except if you are immortal- then you may not need life insurance. Think about it, with over 400,000+ deaths in the USA alone in 2020, many families have been thrown into financial turmoil with each passing of their breadwinners. Families will lose their homes, spouses, and kids may be subject to welfare, dreams shattered and debts unending may start the money-curse for many family’s lineages.

Families that have proper life insurance are better prepared during times like these. They can focus on what’s more important even in times of ill health and losses. The need for life insurance agents has risen so much that according to McKenzie, every year the insurance industry needs about 60,000 new agents to maintain the current size of the distribution of services.

One good thing about becoming a Life Insurance agent is that it has a very low cost of entry; the cost of getting a state license can range from $50 - $300. You will also need to go through a state class(online), a state test (online/in-person), and a background check.

Another great thing about the Life insurance agent career is that you can actually offer your service completely virtually from home, you don’t need to go out at all. You can expect to earn $2,500-$5,000 per month starting out. This will depend on the products you sell, the commissions, and how hard you are willing to work. As you gain experience, you may be making over $10,000 per month - no jokes.

Here is the catch, if you are fortunate to work as an independent agent with an agency that has your best interest at heart, willing to take you by the hands as you go, then, your chances of success are high. However, you must be willing to work hard, commit to training and follow a proven system.

Investment as an independent agent:

  • Agent ID with an agency - $100 -$300
  • State Classes - ($100 - $200)
  • State Test - $50 - $100
  • Background Check - $50 - $70
  • State License Fee - $50 - $300
  • Anywhere from $350 - $900 you are ready for your next career.

Time commitment: Many states require about 36 hours of online study (quite frankly, you can do that in 2-3 days). To make $5,000 as a new life agent, you should be willing to put in about 15 to 25 hours a week. Truly, this is a function of you following a proven system, having a good trainer, and learning the art of sales.

4. Drone Pilots

If you want to become a drone pilot, all you need to do is be above 16 years old, pass the Federal Aviation Administration’s Remote Pilot Certificate exam and pay a licensing fee. This license has become very valuable during this time as well because of the soar in delivery logistics and also in the construction and photography/movie industries. The government may require us to stay home, but we still need medicines, food, and braces from the doctor's office to be delivered to us. Drone deliveries are a very vital alternative to the current way small packages are delivered. The average drone pilot makes about $3,500 to $6,000 per month (if you run it as an independent contractor/business owner you may make much more). For example, companies like UPS are making substantial investments in drone delivery and will need to continuously hire thousands of drone pilots now and in the coming years.

Investment - FAA Test Preparation course - $300, FAA Remote Pilot Certificate Testing Fee - $150, you also want to get a drone to practice so you don't fail your test; that may cost you anywhere from $800 + for a good one. In total, you are looking at an average of $1,200 to get licensed, after which you need to secure employment.

Time commitment: It may take 4 to 6 weeks to get your license, and you'll receive your official certificate in the mail 6-8 weeks after that.

If you commit say 40 to 50 hours a week you should be making an average of $5,000

5. Real Estate License

Real estate brokers and sales agents help clients buy, sell, and rent properties. Although brokers and agents do similar work, brokers are licensed to manage their own real estate businesses with agents working in their firms: Real estate agents must work with a real estate broker. Why is this license valuable at this time; the answer is obvious- we all need to stay at home, we all need to live somewhere COVID-19 notwithstanding.

Technology has also made the industry more adaptable. From online listings, t virtual showings, and Zoom conferences, you can still conduct business while at home. You can help others buy, sell or rent a home while you are at home.

To become a Real estate agent you will need to invest about $1,000 to $3,500 and about 8 weeks to prepare for your real estate exam (some states are way more expensive than others to get a license). After that, you will need to find a broker to supervise your work and afterward apply for your real estate license.

The U.S. Department of Labor cites the average real estate agent salary around $61,720, ($5,000/month) as of May 2018. Some real estate agents make a lot less, and some make a lot more. Typically, as a new real estate agent, you will be working under the guidance of a broker manager with whom you will have to split your commission.

Investment - Anywhere from $1,000 - $3,000

Time commitment: - Average of 8 weeks to prepare for the licensing test.

It takes another 4 to 6 months to get licensed. A new agent should be looking at 12 to 15 hours daily showing and inspecting homes
