Five Lessons I Learned From James Clear's Atomic Habits.

  1. Habits Shape Identity?- To effectively change your habits, you should not focus on what you want to achieve but instead on who you want to become. To become a better version is a process that involves editing your core beliefs which transform and upgrade your identity.
  2. Environment Is The Invisible Hand That Shapes Human Behavior?- You choose products or behave in certain ways not because of who you are but where you are. In a church, you may talk in whispers while shouting when in a soccer match. To succeed, you need to design your environment such that what you want to do is visible through visual cues.
  3. Make New Habits Attractive?- To practice a habit you are trying to install, you must enjoy doing the habit in the first place. To achieve this, create a motivation ritual that involves doing something you enjoy after practicing the habit. Alternatively, you can pair something you need to do with something you want to. For example, you need to exercise, and you want to listen to music - you can listen to music as you exercise.
  4. Standardize Before You Optimize?- You can't improve a habit that doesn't exist; therefore, begin small and make it easy to do it again. The amount of time spent doing something is not as important as the number of times you do it. Your goal should be to repeat it until it becomes part of you, then optimize it to get the best.
  5. Success Is The Product Of Daily Habits, Not Once-In-A-Lifetime Transformations?- A slight change in your daily habits can guide your life to a very different destination. Making a choice that is 1% better or worse may seem insignificant at the moment, but over a span of moments that make up a lifetime, these choices determine the difference between who you are and who you could be.

Amazingly, the one that piqued my interest was to consider who you want to become rather than what you want to achieve. I aslo thing that is is the roadmap to achieving self actualization in Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Good stuff Chacha ??.
