Five key standouts from All Energy 2019

Five key standouts from All Energy 2019

The All Energy conference held in Scotland each May has gained a reputation for highlighting innovation in the renewable energy sector. It was with interest that I headed up to Glasgow this week to see how things had moved on in the last 12 months

Floating offshore wind has made progress. There is momentum, especially in the south west whose efforts have gained the attention of energy minister Claire Perry. The south west has proved effective in promoting the social and wider benefits of floating technologies. We will see how local sectoral deals pan out in Crown Estate leasing rounds from both London and Edinburgh in the coming months.

The offshore sectoral deal is agreed – this was a twinkle in the industry’s eye at all-energy-2018. It can now proceed to codification and implementation

Hydrogen technologies are continuing to progress as predicted last year and this year an augmented exhibition featured lighting generators, cars and even double deck buses which are to be deployed in Aberdeen, London and Liverpool.

Shell was much more evident at conference this year with speakers engaging in a number of keynote sessions and especially prominent in floating offshore wind and hydrogen.

Political will remains solid with commitment from the very top of Scottish government and evidenced through Nicola Sturgeon’s acceptance of the CCC report.

Great post Charley. While progress is being made, wind and hydrogen should be advancing as a combined solution quicker than it is. The technology is ready.
