Five Key Points In Renewable Energy Transition

Greenhouse gas concentrations, sea level rise, ocean heat, and ocean acidification – all markers of climate – continue to elevate. It means our efforts at preserving the ozone layer are not sufficient. The primary way of curtailing the degeneration is to replace fossil fuel use with renewable, cleaner forms of energy.

  • Make renewable energy technology a global public good: It has to be available to everyone. Solar, wind-powered, and electric cars have to phase out gas-fuelled automobiles.

  • Improve global access to components and raw materials: Important materials needed to manufacture these new products, e.g., electric cars, will have to be available across the board. It will result in more international collaboration and coordination to meet production capacity
  • Level the playing field for renewable energy technologies: Intentional policies incentivizing local investment in renewable energy processes will hasten the shift from fossil fuels.

  • Triple investments in renewables: To achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, over $3 trillion has to be invested. It is possible, but the willingness is lacking, experts say.
  • Shift energy subsidies from fossil fuels to renewable energy: Subsidising renewable energy will reduce emissions, create more jobs and strengthen economic growth.
