FIVE Instant touch ups to make your copy Sassier

So, You're done writing the most OPTIMIZED copy of your entire life ! Keyword research is done, Grammar is checked, You have put your heart and soul to it. Nice! You might love your piece of art but STOP!! Don't send it right away, You're missing out on the SASS factor!

Good copy hardly sells. Yes! I said it out LOUD. What sells is that X factor ( as my classmate use to call it) that sets you apart and just clicks. Believe me, our minds don't settle for only grammatically correct, good looking copy, We need something more for the copy to click our minds.

When you are done with doing the obvious, follow these FIVE holy touchups to make your copy insanely better.

Read that copy out LOUD

Once you are done writing your final draft ++, it is time for you to be your own listener. Read your copy out loud to check:

  • If your copy has a tone ( or it sounds as stale as dead).
  • If your copy is following the same voice & tone as the brand ( or we have lost it)
  • If your copy has enough pauses, and full stops to make it sound like a conversation ( or it feels like a policy paper)
  • If it is engaging enough? Is it grabbing your attention? ( or you're just reading it because you wrote it)
  • If it is really speaking to the right person ( or we are just talking to the air)

It is especially important for creative pieces such as website copy, brand writing, social media copy, and blogs. Want a quick help with it? Use apps like natural reader to help you perfect your copy.

Cut that word count

Long and lanky copy tends to lose the reader's attention half way through. Keeping the copy short. value-packed, and interesting is that little secret portion to success. A good copy provides you the right information as soon as possible without feeling too long and redundant.

Here are some tips on how to cut off that word count:

  • Cut off unnecessary jargon (filler words). Words like "Literally" , "actually", "really" .
  • Cut off redundant ideas.
  • Cut off words that are being used more than 3 times in the copy.
  • Read every sentence separately and try to shorten it by 20%.

Ideally, your word count should reduce by 25% by the end of this exercise.

Trust the power of visuals

People often ignore how dominant our visual receptors are in building up our perception. Making any piece of content visually appealing is as important a adding salt to food, nothing else will taste the same without it.

Visual aesthetics is, hands down, the most raw form of sass you can add to your copy. Why use only the list, why not add a smart art, flowchart, or animations? Well, we are all guilty of not tying this out!

Here is a list ( see :D) of ways you can leverage visuals:

  • Use more Bullets. All types, shapes, and colors of bullets work.
  • Use an interesting flowchart to explain flow of activities.
  • Use animation wherever you can. ( Make sure that whatever client is expected to view your piece on, is supportive to the animation).
  • Use Images Literally everywhere
  • Always use white space so your copy doesn't seem bulky.

Using these tricks will definitely be a game changer for you. Adding visuals makes it easy for the readers to skim through your content and creates more value.

Add a pinch of humor

Whether you're writing a post for social media, a blog, a listicle, or a how-to tutorial, a little bit of humor is sassy. Yes, We often sound formal and straight so that people perceive that the copy is written by some " OH-SO-PROFESSIONAL" expert. In doing so, we often miss out on the actual purpose of our copy, TO SELL and TO INSPIRE. Small puns here and there help the copy sound more engaging, hooks the reader to the content, and breaks the monotony.

Remember to be super respectful though!

Check the copy one last time for clarity

So many changes and touch ups can compromise the clarity. Make sure you re-read your copy after making these changes and check:

  • The clarity of the message.
  • The cohesiveness and coherence.
  • The brand voice and tone guidelines.
  • Alignment with the overall goal of the writing.

Once this is done, Boom! you have a copy that has it all. The SASS, the point, and the power to convert readers inti high-ticket clients.

HAPPY WRITING!
