We have all been faced with challenges during the global pandemic. Although not everyone or every business has been impacted the same. Below we take a look at five residential focused industries that are not only surviving but thriving today.
Restoration -Do you know what ice damming is? I didn’t when I saw water pouring through my garage ceiling and down the walls of my freshly painted formal living room. This is when ice on your roof causes a damn allowing melted snow to leak through. Not fun! Restoration companies come to the rescue and perform emergency clean-up caused by water, fire, smoke and or mold damage.
Residential cleaning – When the pandemic became real, people were not letting anyone into their homes. Now, cleaning companies have never been busier. Today now more than ever people want to keep their homes as clean as possible. This coupled with more and more households having both spouses working. There is simply less time to take on the cleaning responsibilities so outsourcing this has become commonplace.
Internal home repair -The capability of working remote has been gaining steady traction for some time. Clearly this has spiked with the COVID -19 crisis. Today organizations are forced to allow and support their employees working from home. With the investment involved in doing this coupled with the uncertainty of what’s to come; it is reasonable to believe more people will be working from home moving forward. With this, homes that used to be vacant for 10 -12 hours per day are getting more usage than ever before. Think about it. Appliances, blinds, carpets, kitchens; everything has a shelf life and with increased usage the life expectancy of these items is reduced.
External home maintenance & repair – As mentioned previously, we are all spending more time at home these days. More time is spent looking out of our windows, at our lawn, our driveway, garage and exterior. Today with a decrease in available activities, places to go and cancelled vacations people are more motivated to not only repair the garage door or update the siding to improve their environment but they are looking to build that outdoor oasis. Have you tried getting a quote to have a pool installed lately? If so, good luck!
Moving & Storage – In good times and in bad people move. When folks progress through their career they tend to move up in house. During times of uncertainty downgrading is considered. Occupationally many people are displaced today, when they find new employment some will be relocated. As of late there seemed to be an influx of people moving into urban areas. Now some are saying folks are fleeing the cities. The baby boomers might not be jumping at the chance to move into a Senior Living Community but now being empty nesters don’t see the need to maintain the 4,000+ sf home for just two people.
In conclusion, each of these categories have a history of consistent performance. They are highlighted today as we see an increased focus on businesses that are recession resistant. Perhaps moving forward, we will start to hear the term pandemic resistant. In either case, if you are looking for a solid B2C business that will provide a valuable service to your community; don’t overlook these categories.
