Five Great Android Features Most People Don't Use.

Tappable’s Lead Android Developer, Andrea, on Five Great Android Features Most People Don’t use.

Android is the most popular OS among all smartphone users, and every 8 out of 10 smartphones sold are running on Android.

There are so many features built into Android OS, most of which are available straight from the settings menu for easy access.

But, there are a few more features that people aren't using or are hidden. Here are five great android features that you should be using right now!

1.?Digital wellbeing app (only available to Android 9 onward devices)

Many people don’t use this app or even know about its existence.

However, it's a pretty helpful app. It has a 'bedtime' setting where the screen turns black and white, which helps with relaxation, so your brain can shut off and sleep.

You can record how long you’ve been using specific apps over the day and set a daily time limit if you’re afraid of spending too much time on your phone.

You can also check how many times you’ve unlocked your phone over the day and how many?notifications you've received.

2. Parental Control

Parental control works hand in hand with the wellbeing app. For example;

If you have parental control, you can also set up all of these parameters on someone else’s device and check their usage.

This is useful for parents trying to limit their child's device usage.

3. Privacy dashboard

The newest version of Android (Android 12) has a privacy dashboard setting. On this, you can browse which app has used specific permissions and, more specifically, when they’ve used them, so you don’t have to worry about apps using your location, camera or microphone in the background anymore.

4.?Multitasking

Android has multitasking features that people don't utilise enough.

One is 'Split view', which allows you to split two apps on your screen so that you don't have to switch between them; with this, you can copy text from an image or play a video while browsing.

Another is clearing the back stack of open apps.

Users often forget to close their apps fully in the background, which means higher battery consumption, less RAM available for other apps, and rarely leads to longer boot time, not in the back stack.

Nowadays, this issue becomes less visible as manufacturers put enormous amounts of RAM in their new phones, but this is a common issue for holders of non-flagship phones with little RAM.

5. Material You (Design style)

If you’re a holder of a Google Pixel, you can customise your phone following a specific colour palette, which gives ultimate customisation.?

'Material you' is based on the one thing almost everyone changes as soon as they get a new phone — the wallpaper.

It’s the one part of any device where you can do everything you want to design-wise, with no rules about what’s tasteful and what isn’t.

Unfortunately, this feature is not supported by any other manufacturer so far.

So there, you have five excellent Android features to be used and optimised!

Enjoy ??
