Five Game-Changing Truths

Five Game-Changing Truths

“Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.”—Ralph Waldo Emerson

It’s what you do when the coach isn’t around that makes you a champion athlete. It’s what you do when leadership is not around that makes you an extraordinary human being. When you demand higher behavior from your own actions, you begin to embrace what I call the Five Game-Changing Truths.

1. Have a Special Sense of Self

Knowing who you are and being the best you can be means knowing you’d be a lousy somebody else. The human spirit is an incredibly powerful force in the universe. It is controlled by our ability to face fears, struggle and make it through life’s storms. Our personal value and self-worth should always be the sum total of our thoughts, not the miscalculation of our insecurities.

2. Think Differently

Answer why you are where you are, why you are doing what you’re doing and why you should give it everything you’ve got when less when be sufficient. Learn how to bring positive thoughts to every moment.

3. Prepare Differently

Everybody wants to win, but few are willing to prepare to win. The value of something is determined by what you are willing to give up to acquire it. Every moment, every conversation, every workday, every practice and every game matters and deserves your relentless determination and attention so you can perform to the best of your ability.

4. Make Everyone Around You Better

Treat others the way you want to be treated so everyone leaves you saying, “I like me best when I’m with you. I want to see you again.”

5. Rise to the Occasion when the Game is on the Line

You don’t need a title to lead. You gain a competitive advantage as an individual and grow your market as an organization, not by doing more than your competition, but by doing what your competition isn’t willing to do.
