BIM-Myth #4: Architects and Consultants Must Use the same tools
BIM-Truth: No single BIM tool does everything for everyone. It’s more important to use the tool that best suits your purpose/workflow and let the other stakeholders do the same. This is widely referred to as "OpenBIM".
With over 200 BIM applications on the market, covering everything from design, engineering, construction management, cost planning and facilities management, stakeholders need to be able to access the data-rich BIM for their specific purpose.
As a key member of the buildingSMART alliance, ARCHICAD (Nemetschek Group) supports and facilitates project collaboration with consultants and other stakeholders through the IFC exchange process. IFC allows model geometry and meta-data to be shared between BIM tools with ease. Here’s a sample of firms/projects that leverage the IFC exchange process to collaborate and coordinate with consultants on different platforms.
