Five in Five: Behavioural Science in the News

Five minutes for five interesting behavioural science-related stories in the news that caught my eye this week.

  1. The?Safe Roads Challenge, a unique, mobile app-based rewards scheme using gamification and smart behavioural science to improve the mindset and performance of drivers, is coming to the UK in 2024. Read more here: Safe Roads Challenge: Changing the game for safer driving

2. March 11 2024 marked four years since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic. From a behavioural science perspective, one of the major themes of the last four years was whether guidance was clear enough or whether people were receiving too many different and confusing messages. Read more here: As the pandemic turns four, here’s what we need to do for a healthier?future.

3. An interesting project in Italy using behavioural science about earthquake warnings. A new web tool, named SICURO+ (Information System for Risk Communication, www.sicuropiu.it ), has been created to raise awareness among citizens on seismic risk in the place where they live, work, or go on holiday. Read more here: SICURO+ : Raising awareness on seismic risk in Italy

4. In recent work, the London School of Economics has sought to expand co-production by adapting behavioural science’s method of adversarial collaboration for use in social science. A new article asks What’s the point of co-production when all your participants agree with you?

5. This interesting article exploring behavioural economics looks at the practice of thrusting increasing amounts of responsibility onto individuals, or what business groups and politicians often call ‘empowering’ them. Suzanne Schneider asks "Who Bears The Risk?"

Thanks for reading! That's all folks??♀?
