Five AI Questions You Need to Answer Now

Last week I wrote about Google’s new NotebookLM AI tool, and today I want to step back and ask how your company will navigate the opportunities and challenges that AI creates.

Most of the leaders I know are stretched. They don’t hve much extra time to carefully consider how AI may (or may not) disrupt their industry.

Unfortunately, however, this is not a task that can be easily outsourced, because the people who are truly experts in this evolving area are both scarce and expensive.

Because AI is the most disruptive force that we have encountered in years, you need to make time now to consider several questions:

1. What are the overarching objectives and values that you’’ll apply when you begin to investigate AI opportunities? In other words, what is going to drive your decisions concerning AI?
2. How might AI put your current competitive advantage at risk? Conversely, how might your competitive advantage be enhanced through AI?
3. What are the most important questions you need to answer? What do you need to figure out or test?
4. Where within your organization would be the right test bed to begin to answer these questions?
5. Who's going to lead the charge, and what are their accountabilities?

The values part is incredibly important. AI may change many things, but it shouldn’t change your values or your dedication to serving key stakeholders such as customers, investors and employees.

Your tests should help you better understand how AI could impact you and your industry.
