The Fitness Industry Needs To Change

The Fitness Industry Needs To Change

The #1 thing I hate about the fitness industry is that it's all about extremes.

Fitness programs ask you do to extreme things and fitness influencers stand by extreme statements. And this needs to change!

?A majority of the workout programs that you see online ask you to do the MOST to be fit.

You have to suddenly start walking 10k steps a day, meditate every morning, overhaul how you eat, double your water intake, and workout everyday.

That is such an extreme ask!

It's no wonder people are overwhelmed with the idea of getting healthy.

We need to simplify that and not ask people to overhaul their life overnight.

Programs like that don't work. They don't work because:

  • They cause burnout

You have to build up your tolerance to exercise, and you're unable to do that when you drastically increase the amount you workout overnight.

If you don't pace yourself, you will become extremely sore and tired. And after feeling that way for a couple weeks, your body won't be able to handle it anymore and you will quit.

  • Our bodies don't like extremes

Your HORMONES especially don't like extremes. When forced into extreme situations, your hormones can easily become imbalanced. And when your hormones are imbalanced, it becomes very difficult to lose weight and build muscle. Which means, the workout program you're doing won't get you the results you're looking for.

And when you don't see results, you are going to quit.

Everything is apparently black and white in the fitness world.?

I've seen these exact statements online...

  • Cardio is bad. Lift heavy.?
  • Carbs are evil. Go keto.
  • If you're not losing fat, do sprints.?

News flash - Our bodies are complex!

??? There are a lot of ways to move.

A person's preferences, stress levels, injury history, goals, hormones, age, ability, etc... all influence how a person should exercise.

Heavy weight lifting and lots of cardio may BOTH be bad options for someone.?

??? Carbs aren't evil.?

You have to find the balance of macronutrients that makes the most sense for your body, life and needs.?

??? If you aren't losing fat, you could have hormonal imbalances.?

And doing sprints would only make that worse for you.?

HIIT isn't the end all be all for fat loss.

We need to stop living in extremes.

This is why people are confused about how to be healthy.?

?? You want to know how to be healthy?

You learn what your unique body needs.

And then you adjust your lifestyle SLOWLY and gradually to give it that.?

?? Want help doing that? I can help you with that!

Preach it Molly! The extremes are so polarizing and overwhelm those that are short on time but could benefit from regular short at home workouts but instead they do nothing because moving their body at home for 15 minutes "doesn't count" or "isn't the right workout" that they see influencers promoting online.

UGH sadly yes! I've done so many workouts that left me extremely sore, and I just thought they were "working".

Totally agree. 80% of being healthy and how and when we fuel our bodies, the other 20% is the activity we do suited to our goals. As a former pro athlete I thought being fit and strong was being healthy, how wrong I was, once I focused more on the fuelling and timing side of things, wow didn’t things change, energy, muscle growth and I shed that dangerous visceral fat, all at 50+. Wish I focused on this more when I was playing football. Great post. Cheers

It is so true! Thank you for your words of wisdom for many who try the extreme and find themselves right back where they started or worse. Its important to create balance within each of us and that looks different for everyone!
