Fish health and welfare on the agenda
Last year 54 million salmon died in the growth phase in the sea. This is a number we all work to reduce every day, with different approaches. For example, by utilizing technology and data or having R&D-meetings, discussing challenges and solutions.
With this in mind, can you think of someone who has made specific measures which have improved fish welfare? We are sponsoring the fish welfare prize, who is an award given by Norsk Fiskeoppdrett and Fiskevelferdsforumet. If you have any candidates in mind, send an email to?[email protected]?and explain why.?
Classifying fish health data
There were multiple reasons why the 53 million salmon died last year. Going forward, it is likely that better data of different mortality causes can contribute to improved measures. Therefore, AquaCloud has made a standard to classify farmed salmon’s health data and cause of death.
Having a "standard" means that they have made a common way to classify health data. It simplifies the registration and strengthens the decision basis. By classifying different causes, the goal is that information from the data eventually can be used to reduce the mortality numbers.?
