First World Problems. Be positive - life is better than the alternative.

First World Problems. Be positive - life is better than the alternative.

I had an early start today - a call with a client that has a truly noble purpose. They help change the world by getting truly poor people out of poverty. That is a really good thing. Last year  people became better off in the "third world" because of them.

By contrast. On my walk to the office prior to the call I was "pavement blocked" by two random people who, well, just moaned about their lot. Apparently "Darren" had been overlooked by "Simon" for a promotion. Seven minutes listening to their "daunting travesties" was enough. Their first world problem.

Honestly, they would have given an Asprin a headache.

Later today I have a meeting with a longstanding contact who, well, is undergoing chemotherapy. Cancer. That most brutal of conversation stoppers.

In spite of the fear of the unknown, I know this person will radiate optimism. He will be simply wonderful company. What a privilege that he has made time for me with such uncertainty ahead. A truly graceful man.

I know who I would rather be stuck with in a lift or on a desert island. Give me a positive human being with an uncertain future than a moaning mood hoover/ Dyson any day.

All too often these days people are making a point of moaning about what they haven't got, rather than looking around them and realizing just how relatively sweet their life is.

Fresh water from the tap, a tap, heating, warm water, 50% of the global money allocated to welfare in their own back yard, education, long life expectancy, freedom of expression, electoral empowerment, the democratic franchise, a job, income, well, the list can go on.

So as I start the week I remind myself to be my blood group. B+. Be positive.

Perhaps we can all remind ourselves of what we have every day, rather than what is missing?

And by the way  "Darren" - if you are reading this maybe you should look in the mirror to work out why you didn't get the gig rather than moaning!
