The First Time I Got Punched in the Face

When I was a little kid I got picked on by this kid named Jason. He was the big kid in the neighborhood that would be nice when it's just the two of us...but once the rest of the neighborhood kids were around he would try and act cool and make fun of me. At first it was just heckling and name calling, but overtime it got much worse.

Well, one day Jason started making fun of how short I was (we were playing basketball) and I said something back that he didn't like and when I wasn't looking he sucker punched me in front of everyone. First time I ever got knocked out. When I regained sight I was laying on the ground and everyone was laughing at me. My dad happened to see what happened and came running out of the house.

He picked me up off the ground and said "son at this moment you have 2 choices...you can go into the house and run away from this bully, or you can stand up for yourself and I promise you if you do Jason will never pick on you again." I ended up fighting Jason and even though I got my ass kicked he never messed with me again.

I can't thank my dad enough for the lesson he taught me that day. In life you have to confront your fears head on and you can't take shit from anyone. If you take the easy way out you'll live your life with regret, hesitation & you'll never have the courage to go after what you want in life.
