For The First Time, California Is Running On 100% Solar Energy
On April 30th, California showed that for one brief moment, we are able to have our entire state running on 100% clean energy.
Such a milestone is a step in the right direction, now aiming to have 100% clean energy for the whole day, week, and even year California still runs gas plants, being able to provide roughly 15% of demand meanwhile their clean energy production meets 97% of demand All excess energy gets exported to neighboring states
Two-thirds of the clean energy provided by California comes directly from solar panels.
The rest comes from other sources like wind and geothermal, while hydropower is becoming less reliable due to the current drought situation In 2020, California was able to provide 80% clean energy, showing that last Saturday was proof the state is making progress.
Although worth celebrating, we still have much work before us until we are in a fully clean state?
What is SB100??
The goal and mandate of Senate Bill 100 are to have 100% clean energy by 2045. The SB100 gives homeowners incentives and tax advantages for placing solar panels on their homes in addition to the reduced energy costs?
